GRAMMY AWARD

[edit]

I have added a paragraph about the Grammy award winning album Bud and Bird. Also added information about Gil Evans' regular Monday nights at Sweet Basil in New York, which was an important ongoing engagement for him in his later years.

Astrud Gilberto recording with Gil Evans

[edit]

The Astrud Gilberto recording in the Gil Evans section was flat out in the wrong place. Gil IS NOT the sole arranger on that CD and it is NOT his album. Gil does the orchestrations (suberb BTW) of many of the big band cuts but Al Cohn does two of them and then there are also small group charts that have none of Gil's work on them (just a traditional Brazilian quartet).

Random thoughts

[edit]

Is there information on Gil's first marriage anywhere? I thought the Personal section to be rather sparse. Any efforts in adding appropriate info would be welcome.THX1136 (talk) 16:16, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Death date format

[edit]

Instructions http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Template:Infobox_musical_artist#death_date say same format as birth date, but doesn't work. Quebec99 (talk) 13:42, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Smoke on the water riff

[edit]

I have no interest in music and wouldn't know how to include the fact that Evans wrote the riff for Deep Purples famous 'Smoke on the Water' song. But I do feel it important that the opening riff of his Jazz song 'Maria Quiet' sung by Astrud Gilberto be mentioned. Leveni (talk) 23:08, 30 Aug 2019 (UTC)
