Kostaki is very right, here. 'Taillefesse' really translates to 'Big Arse'. And 'fesse' is a homophone with 'fèces', literally meaning 'excrement'. This is what brought me here in the first place. Only to find Kostaki being talked down here. Even though I can't give a source for verification (aside from the french dictionnaire...) the fact that her original family name has this meaning could and should be incorporated when mentioning her change of name. There's no wrong-doing in that. And by the way, which sources do YOU have to support the 'to-spite-her-father-only'-story, Nikkimaria? Even if it takes away a little bit of the tragical beauty of the narrative, it adds a little to the realism of a struggling composer having inherited a name quite unfit for positive publicity from a backward and abusive patriarch. You can be sure that anyone speaking a little bit of french will easily find out about the true meaning of her original name. Guess what they'll think about this article not even mentioning it...
