[edit]Religion
[edit]The infobox declares his religion Church of England but the picture from his biography in the ODNB (2004), seems less simple. As the biographer puts it, "North of the border" he considered himself "ex officio a Presbyterian", was a member of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland pre Schism of 1843, and exercised his patronage rights on churches on his Scotland estates despite, in one case, a legal challenge. Pre Schism (1840) he admitted to Gladstone he preferred "the sister church" [of England] and worshipped in Anglican churches in England, being buried at one. How might this be expressed in the infobox?Cloptonson (talk) 11:18, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- In the meantime I have added a new section "Religious interests" to lay out his position, sourced to that ODNB article.Cloptonson (talk) 10:41, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
