Georgia Gwinnett College 2011 Q3

[edit]

As the banner suggests I am editing this page for educational purposes. I have not removed any material. I have added a couple sentences regarding the production of modified rice and an outline for information on various strains that will be added soon. I will be linking this page in with the genetically modified food page. I had originally planned to add this information directly to the GM food article, however since that decision the article has changed and it looks like they want links to specific foods and the article itself to remain generic.Prodiety (talk) 15:31, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Georgia Gwinnett College 2012 Q1

[edit]

I plan to add more detail to the different strains of rice and international legal issues facing this topic. (Sajjad101 (talk) 03:41, 27 February 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Review

[edit]

It will be good if you can add pictures to show modified rice. I like how deep you wrote on the legal issues part for two countries. I suggest to put more countries if you can find so that we can have more than two as you have on the page.In general you did a very good job by adding more information for this page and i learnt a lot of things that i did not know.Keep up the good work! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtoto11 (talkcontribs) 18:50, April 20, 2012‎ (UTC)

Review

[edit]

Yes I agree with the previous reviewer that some pictures would be nice, may be a picture of rice plantations and one showing a comparison os the modified rice grains versus the regular one. Other than that the page looks good, the information is great and also links would be great. There are links for genetically modified foods, tomatoes, fish and one for Salmon, all these are lined to this topic. (Smatovu (talk)

Background?

[edit]

The first paragraph in the background is generic and relates to rice in general - not GM rice. I have added two other paragraphs specifically about GM rice and recommend first paragraph is removed, except for the last sentence which explains some current work underway. Proposed new section on Higher yields

[edit]

I just removed the "Higher yields" section in an effort to remove my edits from this page given my stated [Conflict of Interest]. May I suggest another editor consider adding it or an appropriate version as otherwise there is no mention of C4 rice which is a GM rice and should be noted here if a full list of GM rice traits is intended. My previous text was

"As part of the C4 rice project scientists across the world are collaborating to try to produce a rice that uses C4 photosynthesis. C4 rice has the potential to produce 50% higher yields by turning sunlight into grain more efficiently. According to IRRI, "scientists have already identified crucial genes needed to assemble C4 photosynthesis in rice, and they now aim to produce C4 rice prototypes for testing".[1]"
