[edit]Found the reference to Gary Lightbody discussing his infidelity and writing the songs for Eyes Open...it was in an interview published in the Times (UK) 4-21-06. The article is no longer available online, but the full text of the article can be found here: http://www.snowpatrol.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=493412&sid=30c94a7dd306bcc99a7ca7d70d4ff609 Mkim0678 12:37, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Must add here. Gary Lightbody tells "stories"...( and thats putting it as nicely as I can ). Songs, album names, the band name, and advice on how to present to the press were written by members of Australian band Lavish. The family connection is that our bass player/co-writer Brett Anthony Layton, is a cousin of Iain Archer. Lavish began a commercial write, initially intended for Iain, in July 1992. The first song worked on became Chasing Cars. A couple of months later Brett went on a 10 week, round the world holiday, and spent some time in Northern Ireland, staying at the Archer family house. Iain at that stage, was a late teenager, and I recall that it may of been his last year at High School. Brett showed Iain the demos, and when Brett returned to Oz, he told us about Iain, and so we continued the write. Originally, the material that Coldplay picked up and has used their whole career to date, was intended for Snow Patrol, but they didn't want it. In March 1996, when the Irish lads were in London, staying on Chelsea Road, a suggestion was given that they look for other bands to perform some of the material. The band name Coldplay, was first created in 1992, by Gary Beavis. I believe it was in response to my story that went with the name Snow Patrol. I do have some proof, of my claims, and I am happy to send it to a Wiki moderator/editor for assessment. It includes a Facebook conversation with Brett Layton, and also Crystal Newell ( she was a sound engineer on a Coldplay/Snow Patrol tour of the USA, and gave eye witness account of Gary Lightbody and Chris Martin collaborating on finishing off the song Chasing Cars, in Hotel rooms, on that tour ). In Wiki Coldplay have claimed that they were discovered by the band Travis. Travis members are mates of Snow Patrol, and I was told that, at first, Travis members acted as go-betweens in the Snow Patrol - Coldplay collusion. I started writing to relevant record companies, in about early 2011. If, or, when this matter goes to court the claim will be for misappropriation and fraud, or copyright infringement. The Lavish write began in July 1992, and I don't think its over. The write so far involves more than 30 performing artists/bands and 10 movie outlines and 1 book. ( it was originally inspired by a young girl who doesn't like to be called psychic, "its a god given gift"...and other god given gifts ) It is by far, the most productive write I have ever heard of. I am in the process of writing a book about it. As you may understand, I haven't gone about seeking generalised publication of my claims, as yet. I have been posting on the web for more than 6 months. Internet fraud is a crime in Australia, and, so far, I have not been legally pursued by any person or organisation or police. I would welcome an investigation, because the matter involves organised crime, and as you can understand some people have been reluctant to come forward. The link is that Brett, is also a cousin of Carl Williams ( Melbourne underworld figure who died in jail ) and is married to Colleen ( ex-Corby...she was married to Brent. Brent was a session drummer on 2 tracks...early SP sounds heavily influenced by U2, and I was told Brent provided the recording equipment ). I have about 20 pages of detailed recollections regarding the write. (Ricknixon13 (talk) 00:39, 30 May 2012 (UTC)) ricknixon13@yahoo.com
Nationality
[edit]I reverted Derry Boi's alteration to Lightbody's nationality, back to Northern Irish (from Irish) on the basis that he's from NI, attended a 'prod/unionist' school and has spent a lot of his adult life in Scotland. Hence he appears to see himself as more 6-county than 32-county. Trenwith 18:18, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
the Irish Republic flag
[edit]I'm no Snow Patrol fan, but I'm from Glasgow...so I know how contentious this kind of thing can be. Technically, Bangor is in Ulster, so technically should have the Union Jack. As far as I know, Lightbody has never expressed any Republican tendencies.
I'm not willing to wade into this argument other than to mention that being from Ulster does not make one British. Don't be so ignorant!Play Brian Moore (talk) 13:46, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
According to magazine interviews he regards himself as Irish (Derry Boi 09:59, 4 June 2007 (UTC))
- So what? I'm Irish too. It doesn't stop me being more specifically Northern Irish. Stop trying to make some kind of WP:POINT - Wikipedia is not a soapbox. --Mal 21:16, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
This is sure to draw some flak. The band name and works and ideas on some clips and how to present came from Australian band Lavish. The bass player co-writer was Brett Layton, he is a cousin of Iain Archer. I know because I was in Lavish and worked with Brett, and other band members. One of our ideas was that they present themselves as being from Nth Ireland, and proudly Northern Irish, because our generation grew up on the 6 monthly news feeds of bombings and violence in Nth Ireland. We wanted them to proudly paint another picture of Nth Ireland. This appears to be catching on, with other celebs from Nth Ireland, such as Rory McIllroy, a world class golfer, consistently reported as being proudly from Nth Ireland. I hope that, out of the environment of polarising sectarian political views, our idea here maybe seen as an "Irish compromise", that is no compromise at all, and simply acknowledgement of common ground by a generation that is proudly making change. I do have some proof of my claims, a FB conversation with Brett, and also a conversation with Crystal Newell, a sound engineer on a Coldplay/Snow Patrol tour of the US. So far my information has not been published in a manner acceptable for Wiki to allow my edits. Happy to share what I have, with editors etc, with the view that my information maybe included, when I work out how to save my files as read only. Belfast or Bangor?
[edit]I was given to understand that Lightbody was from Bangor. Then I read this article today, which claims he was thankful for "growing up in Belfast". It could be that he lived in Bangor from when he was born, then moved to Belfast of course. But it should definately be clarified, considering the intro states he was born in Bangor (though, unless he was a home birth, there are no maternity hospitals in Bangor, so..), and later the article says, "fellow student Mark McClelland, also from Belfast." --Mal 21:22, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Cheers Stu - I'm going to add that as a source.. its a good website anyhow. Presumably of course, he would actually have been born in Newtownards or somwhere.. ;) --Mal 09:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
