Green Party Claim
[edit]Can anyone provide a link to the Toronto Star article that suggest that he will join the Green Party? Even before reading this article, that occurred to me as a possibility, but it does need to be substantiated.
Also, I've rated the article as Start-class; minimal biography, mostly lacking sources, but longer than a stub. —Cuiviénen 16:35, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Added Green Party bit with link. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2006/10/19/turner-reax.html I really need to get an account here! Have a good day. 209.226.121.146 18:16, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Turner will not be joining the Green Party or the Liberals. He will stay as an independent for the time being http://www.haltonsearch.com/hr/mcc/story/3801981p-4397695c.html --Mphilp 03:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Liberal Party Claim
[edit]This has not been confirmed and as such I am removing it (although I'm all for a Liberal Garth) Kiarasexton 16:59, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Watchlisters: Note datestamp on above comment. Obviously it is no longer relevant. -Joshuapaquin 04:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Floor crosser?
[edit]In the article Floor Crossing it says: "In Canada, the term "crossing the floor" is used exclusively to refer to switching parties which occurs occasionally at both the federal and provincial levels."
Is this the most appropriate term? It seems to me that Turner didn't switch from a Conservative to a Liberal; he was removed from the Conservative caucus, remained an independant for a time, then joined (not switched?) the Liberal party. I, for one, think of someone like Belinda Stronach or David Emerson when I hear "floor-crosser"; that is, someone who willfully switches from one party straight to another. Though I suppose if he had chosen to leave the Conservative caucus the term might be more appropriate.
Anyway, thoughts?
I removed Mr. Turner from the category of floor crossers. The fact is that Mr. Turner was sent into Opposition by the governing caucus, that is his own caucus and from that point had no political affiliation. Joining the Liberals while having no political affiliation is certainly not crossing the floor. Not in the slightest. Sima Yi 17:33, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
NPOV stuff
[edit]The language in the floor crossing section is horrible. Time and again, when it is fixed, it is reverted to biased garbage. A present example:
"In a move that ignored the Canadian parliamentary system Turner offered to contest his seat in a by-election if given a fixed date by the Prime Minister along with David Emerson and Wajid Khan." Watchsmart 06:50, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've tried to make it a bit more neutral, though I don't think it's perfect. I'll see if I can come up with something a little better later. Tev 17:17, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Good stuff. Keep the article on your watch list, perhaps - your edits will probably be mangled in a few days time. Watchsmart 03:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:TurnerGarth CPC.jpg
[edit]Image:TurnerGarth CPC.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:04, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]I have assessed this as Start Class, as it contains more detail and organization than would be expected of a Stub, and of low importance, as I do not feel that many people outside of Canada would be familiar with the subject of the article. Cheers, CP 15:44, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Recent changes
[edit]It looks like there are a couple of editors sympathetic to Garth Turner editing this page. That's completely appropriate, and I'm actually quite sympathetic to him as well (he's my Facebook friend, if you must know). I'd just like to request that rather than inexperienced editors making changes to the article directly - changes that will often be reverted immediately - they bring their concerns here. I'm an experienced Wikipedia editor who watches this page closely, and I feel quite confident in saying that concerns with the article will be resolved much more quickly and satisfactorily if concerns are raised here than through just edit-warring in the article. It's got to be worth a shot at least, no? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 01:13, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Turner and CPAC
[edit]Turner made an unofficial statement about the incident on his blog where he calls it a "mistake". Turner apologized to CPAC as well and took full responsibility for the incident. The Turner Report. I see any reason why this section should now be removed. Turner apologized to CPAC as well.MiltonP Ottawa (talk) 07:33, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sysknil has only edited the Garth Turner article and I suspect some kind of political motivation in their reverts to my section on CPAC. I have edited this section and cleaned it up a little now that more facts are out. I don't see any reason to delete it.MiltonP Ottawa (talk) 07:50, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it looks like partisan bias on both sides of this edit war. How come out of all of the things Mr. Turner has done and said during this campaign, only this incident made it into the article, and with its own section no less? I'm tempted to delete the section and request full protection to stop all of you from fighting this little edit war. I suggest you guys get some kind of consensus and write a version that's from a NPOV.
- Someone is saying this got no media attention. Sorry, no, that's absolutely wrong. It did get media attention Google News I've edited the article many times and changed it to NPOV but it seems that the other editors are retaliatory and only respond by deleting the section.MiltonP Ottawa (talk) 09:52, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Early Life an Careers
[edit]Hey I deleted this part educated at the University of Toronto Schools where he belonged to Cody house. in the early life and career section because the next paragraph states: He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Arts in English literature from the University of Western Ontario. So I though it was redundant to have to basically the same sentence twice. If you disagree with my choice to do this feel free to reverse my edit. Love Kirby03 (talk) 00:08, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
