Chinese Garden

[edit]

I want to add a small section about Chinese gardening. Are there anyone opposing this idea? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gomeying (talkcontribs) 13:56, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopedic tone

[edit]

I don't have enough time to go through the entire thing and alter the tone to fit encyclopedic standards... Could someone maybe help? Earendil56 (talk) 15:44, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

I am extremely concerned with the persisting pornographic vandalism that appears on this page. My attempt to remove it seems to have automatically been reverted. I don't know how to deal with this and there is nothing in the article on Wikipedia:Vandalism that talks about something of this nature. I am even more concerned that after my initial attempts to remove it failed, my computer seems to be blocked from logging in to Wikipedia. My worry is that this has made me the target of a malicious attack. I only stumbled on this article by accident, and this clearly needs to be dealt with by someone who knows what they're doing.

I don't know if there has been any blocking. A sysop may have confused your address with the vandal. I looked at the page, and your correction was still in effect (at least when I looked). Be sure you refresh your browser, so you're not looking at a cached page. I would also encourage you to get a username to avoid any possible confusion with vandals. Anyway thanks for the cleanup. I don't know why this page seems to be a target for jerks. We need more folks like you, even if you do stay anonymous. Pollinator 12:37, Jun 13, 2004 (UTC)

I had removed the paragraph concerning roof garden from the "gardening" article text and moved it lock, stock and barrel into its own separate article. That article is also linked to in the gardening article, as well as in the garden article under the list "Garden types". If there needs to be an additional reference to it in this article, perhaps it can be shortened, so it is not a repeat of the separate article. Perhaps also, the separate article can be further developed.  :Sfdan 19:56, 6 Nov 2003 (UTC)

ok :-) Thanks for all the great work on this article. It had a common basis with the french one, and watching the evolution of them both in different direction is very pleasant. Anthère

Would an article on garden pests be appropriate? Many of these critters already have their own pages (like the Snail page), but an article discussing them specifically in the context of gardening and defending one's garden from them, could be handy. Crayfish

I think an article on garden pests would be appropriate. I would also like to see a list of garden pests included into that article, which would lead one to the individual "garden pest" pages. Sfdan 09:48, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Here is a start - perhaps not quite what you expected - but a start anyhow!81.144.158.195. Let me try four waves! 81.144.158.195 15:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Onions are used worldwide for making various food dishes. It has many benefits for human health. It can be grown in any outdoor garden with vegetables. Although growing onions is quite easy but through a proper process. You can grow onions by following these guidelines. Waqarmir11 (talk) 11:31, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the section about gardens as a form of social or political expression, it might be worth mentioning the Victory Gardens people planted during World War II. Those were both a source of food, and a political expression of support for the U.S. war effort. Have other countries also encouraged gardening as an expression of nationalism? Wesley 16:02, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Perhaps the page could do with some links to more practical information, e.g. how to grow runner beans, kill slugs, etc. publunch pjb@publunch.plus.com 21:37, 18th April 2004.

Link to "Notable Gardeners" links to "Gardener". This seems wrong, but I'm not sure if there is a "List of Famous Gardeners" as yet. Nimbex 01:05, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On the gardening versus farming in the UK there is a serious difference in planning consent for land: you need permission for a garden on farmland or a farm on land designated residential. They even argue that an orchard is a farm if and only if the trees are in straight lines. Is this a peculiar British thing or is it a distinction worth discussing everywhere? (talk)--BozMo 22:36, 7 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

It's randomly different - in the US it varies from state to state and even county to county. Might just say "governments sometimes have official definitions and restrictions", and give British as examples. Stan 01:00, 8 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

American gardens and American gardeners

[edit]

Amercian gardeners cope with many different conditions from sandy soils to clay, from rocks to bogs. We garden at the tops of the Adirondacks and Rocky Mountains through the Great Plains of the midwest and in coastal areas. Winters range from tropical to artic and everything in between. It is rarely possible to address all these problems in one article, but some of the regional differences are addressed in Americangardens@suite101.com. That's regional information, not interesting to most people, the "we" form is not permitted and the formatting was terrible. I've removed it. Piet 20:25, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone added a request for citations next to "celebrity gardeners" even though an internal link cites many examples. Please explain why additional references are needed. Perhaps this will help me learn more about this site's requirements. Thanks!Nabiw1 (talk) 02:14, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I reverted the edit to remove an added link. The link doesn't appear to provide useful gardening info. It seems to be a collection of anecdotal gardening stories. HeirloomGardener 01:10, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup and Neutrality tags

[edit]

I've removed the tags. Better to be bold and cleanup the article and add references than to slap a tag. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 03:46, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

This article is completely without references! With all the Schools, Colleges and Faculties of Agriculture and Horticultre, the gardening sections in book stores, the popular gardening magazines, the newspaper gardening columns, the various master gardener programs, the academic journals, etc., there must be reliable sources available. And, not 50 year-old references. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 02:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gardener, Merger proposal, Gardening

Surely gardener is just someone who does gardening - I can't see how this needs a separate article (???) Casliber (talk · contribs) 03:57, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  3. This is just restoring the status quo as of 9 Aug 2009 (as changed by this edit and a similar one at Gardener). Although there is potentially a lot of material, we don't have a lot of material yet, and I'm not sure Gardening versus Gardener would be the way to split it anyway. Discussion

[edit]

[[[User:Chaddymaddy|Chaddymaddy]] (talk) 03:20, 2 February 2016 (UTC)] I am interested in adding a section on rooftop gardens in urban areas. I was looking for some feedback before putting anything up. User:SilkTork merged Gardener into this article on 11 Jan 2009. I moved the page history to List of professional gardeners and recreated the list. I agree that the topic of "gardener" does not have sufficient content to stand alone from the article gardening. Some categories may remain on the redirect gardener e.g. occupations. - Fayenatic (talk) 08:04, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

cricket

[edit]

i'd like to add a line at the top, to indicate a link to the cricketing terminology for gardening (no, i'm not making this up, it does exist). what would be the best way to do that? cheers Inzy (talk) 05:01, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, yes, it is at List of cricket terms. But I'm a bit skeptical that people are really going to search for gardening and expect to be directed to that term (it is a pretty obscure cricket term). But if you really want to pursue this, see for example WP:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). Kingdon (talk) 20:56, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Square foot gardening

[edit]

I was trying to remember this term, "square foot gardening," by looking at this "Gardening" page. Unfortunately, this page did not lead me to the term; I realized the term after doing extensive internet searching.

Where should square foot gardening be linked to? Somewhere within the types section?

I see that square foot gardening is listed on the Navbox template, that's good. ;)

- Tomz0rs (talk) 04:38, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think it should be added as an entry within the Types section. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:13, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
