How to Edit
[edit]Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?
The WikiProject Cities standards might help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ram-Man (talk • contribs) 23:36, 14 October 2002 (UTC)
Schools
[edit]This information came from a sub-stub that is now redireced here:
- Battlefeild Middle School is a middle school in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The principal is Patty Smith. The Vice principal is Mr. Carlson.
http://www.spotsylvania.k12.va.us/bms/
Any thoughts on how to sensibly incorporate it?
brenneman(t)(c) 06:55, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for catching this one Aaron, the stub was horribly inaccurate. i.e. misspelled school name and title, incorrect principal name, et cetera. Your redirect has been reverted and the article has been significantly expanded with additional information which may be of interest to a potential reader. Silensor 07:14, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out Aaron, I missed it first time round. David D. (Talk) 05:36, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Notable People
[edit]I think that more notable people should be included, like George Coghill, a two-time Super Bowl Champion, and George and Martha Washington. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.174.39.183 (talk) 15:29, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I also think that it should be noted that Thomas Jefferson wrote the VA statute for religious freedom in Fredericksburg. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Virginia_Statute_for_Religious_Freedom —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.76.16.189 (talk) 20:17, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Sister City
[edit]It was in the local paper here last week and the city was spelled Princes Town. It might have been a flub by the paper.

Articles for Fredericksburg media?
[edit]Are any Fredericksburg editors interested in creating articles for The Free Lance–Star and/or Fredericksburg radio stations? Lots of smaller newspapers and radio stations have their own articles. I'd start them myself, but I've got connections to the newspaper and it would be a conflict of interest — but I'd still like to see pages created. Anyone interested? —69.0.55.178 06:15, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like this has largely been done. Is there still a need? I live near Fredericksburg in Spotsylvania County and would be glad to work on it. CsikosLo (talk) 18:32, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Northern Virginia?
[edit]Whether or not Fredericksburg and Spotsy county is a part of Northern Virginia is something that can be debated endlessly. The governor (Mr Kaine) said it was late last year and was taken to task by the local press, but now The Free Lance–Star ran an article on Sunday asking local prominent folks the same question. There is no conclusion. I will change the article to reflect that better than it does now. CsikosLo (talk) 18:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes! Fredericksburg is NOT a part of Northern Virginia, and the people who live here (like me) certainly don't think so either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.254.95.183 (talk) 01:34, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Note to whoever has been changing it: pls discuss before doing so. Changing the comment and deleting my references doesn't change the location of the city. 138.162.128.54 (talk) 16:48, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
I have changed the line that it is becoming part of NOVA from "This has led to Fredericksburg becoming more culturally synonymous with the rest of Northern Virginia, which is NOT what the references cited say, to a more neutral There has been continuous debate about whether or not Fredericksburg is a part of Northern Virginia, whish is precisely what the articles say. 155.213.224.59 (talk) 19:28, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
I changed the line to clarify that the debate is about whether or not Fredericksburg is culturally a part of Nova, rather than geographically, as it is officially considered geographically Northern VA (which I also added before the statement pertaining to the metro region the city is a part of, in line with similar articles about cities in Northern VA). --Bathes (talk) 18:18, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Fredericksburg Seal.gif
[edit]Image:Fredericksburg Seal.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:52, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Obama rally
[edit]Two anonymous editors have recently removed the sentences about the recent Obama/Biden rally at UMW. I've restored them, but I reckon that it should be discussed. I know we want to avoid recentism, but I think that a rally which draws a crowd bigger than the population of the city is noteworthy. If people disagree, I'd like to see the arguments. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 16:40, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Fred Vegas?
[edit]I went there a few times over this past summer, and this place was off the hook. Chain-restaurants as far as the eye can see. I may have had one too many Jack and DC Specials [1], but local residents convinced me that the nightlife was on par with Las Vegas. Is it true that Fredericksburg is sometime referred to as Fred Vegas...because the nickname seemed perfect? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.83.227.87 (talk) 16:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Crime section
[edit]The crime section is generic and meaningless. It should either be deleted or re-written to contain information on - crime. In Fredericksburg. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.142.22.118 (talk) 15:09, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
"Brooklyn on the Rappahannock" — noteworthy?
[edit]So a Washington Post column yesterday said that "Fredericksburg might want to start hyping itself as Brooklyn on the Rappahannock." The point was that downtown Fredericksburg is thriving with art studios, foodie restaurants and hipster design shops. Is this noteworthy? Should the "Culture and recreation" section have something beyond the historic sites and Chick-Fil-A (which technically is not in the city anyway)? —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 04:06, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Founding of The University of Mary Washington
[edit]Text in the article states UMW was founded in Fredericksburg in 1908, however, the land on which the school was built was not annexed into the city until 1940. The school was "founded" in Spotsylvania County. See Google News Archive of the local newspaper, The Free Lance-Star, article from May 13, 1967 showing map of history of the annexation of Fredericksburg here: https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=9fRKRCJz75UC&dat=19670513&printsec=frontpage&hl=en The school is located on the land immediately west of Sunken Road. Sorry I don't have an account here. Submitted by Theron Keller, 6 June 2016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.71.207.88 (talk) 03:06, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
