[edit]I deleted most of the article. Much of it was plagiarized from the church website. As a result, some of the wording was overtly promotional, especially in the last section, and there were many inaccuracies throughout.
This whole article should be rewritten from independent sources.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1014:b052:a7e3:1745:fa90:9eaf:757e (talk • contribs) 06:49, 13 November 2014
- Deleting the article is not the appropriate action. Tagging the statements that you feel are inaccurate with {{fact}} and commenting on problems is the appropriated course of action. Additionally, per WP:SELFSOURCE "Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field..." The fact that most of the info comes from the sects website is not a violation of WP:RS. I do agree with you that it is preferable to use independent sources, but in this case it is not required.--- ARTEST4ECHO(Talk) 15:00, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Reasons for leaving RLDS
[edit]The article should say something about what propelled Larsen and others to leave the RLDS / CC and found their own church. 128.148.231.12 (talk) 17:27, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
"One Mighty and Strong" and "Seer and Translator"
[edit]In the genesis of the Remnant Church some of the membership may have believed that President Larsen was a Seer/Translator and the "One Mighty and Strong." This is certainly not a widely held view now, if at all or ever was. The widely accepted belief is that the "Seer and Translator" requires one to be in possession of the Urim and Thummin. It was a description of the one who has the gift of translating via the "translators." It became a tradition to call the President of the Church the "Seer and Translator" when, in fact, there has not been one in supposed possession of those relics since Joseph Smith Jr.
President Larsen as the "One Mighty and Strong" has definitely not been a widespread belief. In fact, most believe that it is either a closed revelation or describes not a normal man, but Christ himself. It was, in part, answered by the RLDS General Conference of 1900. A committee formed for the purpose of investigating the identity of this person and reported to the conference of 1900 their conclusion:
Whereas, we have received no divine communication authorizing any particular interpretation of the revelation before us; and as the Reorganized Church has never taken action upon the matter; Resolved, that we leave it an open question, to be decided as God may develop his purposes among us, while we acknowledge the leading features in it to be prominently characteristic of Jesus Christ. (Signed on behalf of said committee by chairman and secretary; found in General Conference Minutes pg. 180-83)
While it became wildly popular after the Restoration Branch movement started for their membership to speculate that there would be a supposed person who was the "One Mighty and Strong" who would "fix" their Church, most of the actual revelation points to a prophecy of Christ's return and most believe that is the true interpretation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexanderjvc (talk • contribs) 00:25, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
