Who was Charles J. Gaisberg?
[edit]I have a pre-1920 one sided shellac record of Chaliapin singing the Song of the Volga Boatmen, which says "Revised by Charles J. Gaisberg". What, if any relation to Fred Gaisberg was he? Sasha (talk) 17:56, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Proposed amendments to FWG bio
[edit]While reading the article, I like to make some points of discussion, to be confirmed. I´ve just finished reading Jerrold Northrop Moore's book "A Matter Of Records", where he tells the story of Fred Gaisberg, mainly based on FWG's own diaries, EMI papers, interviews with niece Isabella Valli and other's recollections. It also makes some corrections on the FWG's book "Music On Record" or "The Music Goes Round" (titles for the US and UK edition were different, but is much the same book). When FWG wrote it, he was somewhat misleading at several points with dates, etc.
Based on Northrop's book, I'd like to propose all these corrections to the bio here presented.
1) 2nd paragraph: 1902 Caruso recordings were made for HMV, not for Victor.
