Foo Fighters or the Foo Fighters? (again)

[edit]

Well, lookee here. An editor on the Pixies (band) article has led me to this bit of the WP:THE guideline:

If a band is officially known without a definite article, but the members typically refer to their group as "the (Name)" in everyday speech, then the definite article should be included in running prose.

I love this guideline because it offers a solution to a long-running inconsistency on Wikipedia. As I noted the last time I brought this up, the band members seem to use the definite article. Any objections to me changing all the mentions of "Foo Fighters" to "the Foo Fighters"? Popcornfud (talk) 22:40, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I believe my stance is the same as before. No objections. Sergecross73 msg me 23:42, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would also go further to say that the band members use as such is nice, but per WP:UCN and the like, we only really need a preponderance of reliable sources that use the article. --Jayron32 14:02, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Extend the end date of Drew Hester to 2010, add Jessy Greene ( 2007 - 2010) to former touring members, create "current touring members" and add Barbara Gruska, Samantha Sidley, Laura Mace ( 2017 - present ) to the section Brocodeguy (talk) 13:39, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - You need to provide reliable sources to verify all of this. Sergecross73 msg me 14:00, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Under awards and nominations, the first sentence should say they've won 14 other Grammy Awards after their first. The second sentence should say they've won Best Rock Album 5 times and list Medicine At Midnight as the 5th. Since they have now won Best Rock Songs 3 times, as many times as they've won Best Hard Rock Performance, that should be listed as a notable category where they've won multiple times and list those songs "Walk", "Run", and "Waiting On A War". The citation on for these sentences is also a dead link and can be replaced with this archived link to the Foo Fighters page on the Grammy website: https://web.archive.org/web/20231210020234/https://www.grammy.com/artists/foo-fighters/14694 Logogeo96 (talk) 00:08, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Geardona (talk to me?) 15:36, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nate Mendel backing vocals

[edit]

Why do edits regarding Nate Mendel taking on backing vocals get reverted?

He has been on backing vocals at concerts consistently since the passing of Taylor Hawkins. 86.29.207.75 (talk) 20:20, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For starters, per WP:V, all content additions require reliable sources verifying the information. So far, no one has done this bare minimum requirement. Sergecross73 msg me 23:36, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm curious, how can something like show attendance be referenced? The fact that he is singing backing vocals can be clearly seen and heard at every show on the current tour. This is indisputable, yet I'm not sure how it can be referenced. 86.29.207.75 (talk) 18:58, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It generally cant be - most passing accounts would violate WP:OR or WP:USERG. Your best bet is maybe a live show review that makes mention of it or something. Sergecross73 msg me 19:14, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An additional point to this, having seen that the issue has arose again – Chris Shiflett's role as a banking vocalist isn't referenced yet it is allowed to remain. Why that and not Nate's when both have clearly been singing backing vocals at every show on the current tour? 86.29.207.75 (talk) 02:40, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's simply another thing needing fixing then - it should be removed as well. Editors randomly tinker with it faster than it can be maintained. Sergecross73 msg me 12:58, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged hiatus

[edit]

Why there's an info about the band being on hiatus if it was never announced by Dave, any member of the band or their management? The only "source" for it is a Yahoo article claiming that they're "reportedly" on hiatus after Dave's infidelity scandal. Mmartinsdemoura (talk) 13:15, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Widely reported in UK e.g. Metro. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:27, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Though it should be noted that Metro isn't considered a reliable source... Popcornfud (talk) 13:32, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Wiki-favourite Daily Mail also reports and uses scare quotes in the headline. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:35, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's no official statement by the band itself. all the articles claiming that they're on hiatus are from insiders/alleged sources Mmartinsdemoura (talk) 13:33, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's not necessarily a problem as we prefer secondary sources over primary sources. Popcornfud (talk) 13:39, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But in this case, I'm not sure why. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:42, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So why the article says that "the Foo Fighters announced that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus" if it was never announced by themselves? The wording should reflect that they're on hiatus according to close sources or something like that, the way it's worded is misleading the reader. Mmartinsdemoura (talk) 13:46, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Quite agree. There's been no official band announcement. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:48, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The current article says "On September 29, 2024, the Foo Fighters announced that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus". That is simply factually incorrect. They did NOT announce anything on September 29th. "The Blast" published an article on that date which cited "The Sun" which said "THE FOO FIGHTERS are rumoured to be announcing a hiatus". Rumoured. But didn't. Still haven't.
The tour date they cancelled was the last one they had planned, it was simply the end of the tour. You don't say a band is on hiatus at the end of every album and tour cycle. It's perfectly normal. 82.11.11.19 (talk) 09:52, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have adjusted the text accordingly. There have been quite a few previous "hiatuses" but this is not one of them, yet at least. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:59, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
