Insufficient Sources

[edit]

This article consists of a farrago of comments on the house-flipping phenomenon which fails on many levels:

  1. No hard numbers are given about the number of houses being flipped each year vs. the number of houses sold per year (especially needed on a year-to-year basis to show that this is actually a trend and not merely a US television phenomenon).
  2. There is no NPOV discussion of the phenomenon backed up by verifiable statements from authorities on the housing market (government, economists, etc.).
  3. It conflates the housing bubble with the supposed flipping phenomenon.

Right now, this reads like a freshman term paper rather than a Wikipedia entry. Without firmer citations and a consistent NPOV discussion, the article should frankly be deleted or rewritten as a piece about a media-driven trend rather than an actual phenomenon.

Negative effects of flipping

[edit]

1. Having a section on the negative effects is fine, but it should include citations. All the main claims of this section should be cited. 2. The second paragraph goes on and on about gentrification setting off a chain reaction of gentrification upon gentrification. Gentrification itself is a controversial issue, some see it as an inherently good thing. If some notable people/experts are making this criticism of flipping, cite them. heqs 12:06, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

mistaken revert of cents

WSJ

[edit]

Please provide a link to, or quote from the cited Wall Street Journal article. Does it postulate that the falling prices are due to flipping? Due to rising interest rates? Or merely reporting statistics? At the very least, name the article, author, and/or provide a link to the article. Thanks, heqs 11:23, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

shows added

[edit]

Are those all about flipping? A few of them (e.g. "home architecture" and "the anatomy of the real-estate deal") sound like they are not about flipping. heqs 08:12, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed one show (House Hunters) which definitely does NOT deal with flipping. Samer 18:20, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, a lot of those are not about flipping at all. I'm going to remove the ones I know are not really about flipping. I'm going to leave the ones I don't know about. ~ ONUnicorn (Talk / Contribs) 17:01, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One Sided Argument

[edit]

This article is one sided (against flipping). Please add a counter arguement on the economically positive aspects of flipping.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.217.176.77 (talkcontribs) .

I've created a new stub section about some positive benefits. Maybe someone else can help expand that section and add some supporting sources. -- Bovineone 18:44, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article still seems one-sided. From this article, it is not clear to me Italic texthowItalic text flipping causes inflated home prices. Aren't there many other factors which drive a real estate boom - interest rates maybe?? I also believe providing an example of a real-estate scam is meant only to serve this one-sided debate by giving the reader the impression that wholesaling and flipping is a tactic only used by unscrupulous peoples.

Books in reference section

[edit]

Before I started adding ISBNs to the newly created book section, please see this and discuss whether or not this books meets WP:EL because it has an ISBN and an Amazon page: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/money/news/2007/05/can-the-donald-make-you-rich-5-07/overview/0705_can-the-donald-make-you-rich_ov.htm Flowanda | Talk 07:16, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FlippingFlipping (financial) – This article is about finance, as flipping in general means flipping to another side. Aitraintheeditorandgamer (talk) 01:52, 22 January 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 20:24, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
