Hi @Jmertel23: Thank you for dropping by. This lady has even made the international news with in-depth coverage. Is there anything else specifically that you think is lacking to establish notability? Omikroergosum (talk) 22:06, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- I added the notability tag because, as per WP:NPOL, being a candidate for a political office does not in and of itself indicate notability. There is therefore a higher standard for the need for independent, reliable sources. I placed the tag so that the references could be reviewed, as it is not often that a subject who is a political candidate meets the notability guidelines. Jmertel23 (talk) 20:02, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Attracting in-depth national and even international press coverage over about a year establishes notability. I thus removed the tag. Would have been nice to specify the concern directly. Omikroergosum (talk) 21:24, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Comments from Gayatri on Fayrouz Saad
[edit]Hi thanks for starting the article on Saad. I was wondering if I may add some additional content to the existing article? Please feel free to edit my additions. I was going to frame the notability factor around the many Muslim-Americans running for office in 2018. --GDevi17745 (talk) 14:51, 8 August 2018 (UTC)GDevi17745
Also, I am doing these edits as part of a class that I am taking with Wikiedu. So if any of this is not okay, please excuse me and tell me what I should correct. It is my very first article for wikipedia. GDevi17745 (talk) 15:27, 8 August 2018 (UTC)GDevi17745
I added 3 new sections: Early Life and Education, Career, and 2018 Congressional Campaign. Please let me know if you wish to make any changes. Thank you. GDevi17745 (talk) 16:38, 8 August 2018 (UTC)GDevi17745
- Hello Gayatri, thank you for your contributions! An article about a person should focus on that person, not on a wider phenomenon of others who are in some way similar as in this case other Muslim Americans running for office. If that phenomenon in itself is notable it should have a separate article or maybe a paragraph in an article about affected elections. I don't know what Wikiedu is but it seems a bit spooky that you commented on an article by another user that does not appear anywhere - were you shown a draft online? - and you should be careful not to appear as a single purpose account who only uses Wikipedia for campaigning (even though in this case the campaigning would now be futile as the primaries were lost for Saad). I am sure you will have more to add to Wikipedia. What is your take on the deletion discussion? Happy editing! Omikroergosum (talk) 23:36, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your thoughtful comments. Yes, I found this article on my course page on wikiedu. I don't know how it got there. I wanted to develop it as it was labeled a "Stub." So I went ahead but you are right, Saad lost the election. Thanks again for your patience. GDevi17745 (talk) 15:17, 15 August 2018 (UTC)GDevi17745
- Also, I forgot to address your question about wikiedu--it is a course that is being taught on how to contribute to wikipedia--I am enrolled in that course and these assignments were part of our editing tasks. This particular course is specifically for midterm elections so that is why we are all working on midterm election topics. I commented on Susan's article because it was put up for review; we are in the same class and the drafts were there; each one of us has to practice peer review. Sorry if I broke any of the editing etiquette. I hope to become more informed at the end of the course. Thank you again for your patience. GDevi17745 (talk) 15:32, 15 August 2018 (UTC)GDevi17745
- I got some good feedback from my course instructors Shalor Toncray and Will Kent regarding the Saad article and the proposed deletion. I am going to take one more shot at it and see if it meets the notability criteria. If it doesn't I am okay with it being deleted. Thank you. GDevi17745 (talk) 15:32, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
