Release date?

[edit]

Okay, so Ruel released this song at the same time worldwide [1]: 7am AEST on Aug 9th, where he's based; and at 10pm UTC on Aug 8th, which is the default Wikipedia timezone. Apple Music says that the song was released on the 10th [2], which I know is wrong. Right now, I put that it was released on the 8th, with the Apple Music citation. I know for sure that we need to change the citation ASAP, but should we put the release date as the 8th or the 9th? BenevolentBeast (talk) 20:51, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ss112: Update: I found that Google Play release dates are more accurate than Apple Music's (which always shows the release date as two days later), based on this comparison: Google [3] vs Apple [4]. Should we change all citations from all of Ruel's singles to Google Play instead (and possibly other artists' songs too)? I also thought I should ping you cause you edit a lot of music pages, including this one. BenevolentBeast (talk) 22:29, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Update 2: I was partially wrong—Ruel's other songs, when shown on Apple Music, show the correct dates. The only problem is Face to Face, which says was released 2 days later than it actually is. So I guess my only question is: Is Google Play a good source to use? BenevolentBeast (talk) 23:41, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Play is fine to use to source release dates sometimes, sure, but I don't think it should be the only source. Apple Music/iTunes is still fine most of the time. There are exceptions where it has used placeholder data for older albums (for example, showing an album released before it was around as being released on the first of January of a given year) or a date slightly off.
