A book that would prove useful further reading for this and the Hervey Benham article is Life with the Locals (ISBN13: 978-0952936008), Benham's memoirs of the local press in Colchester from the 1930s to the 1980s. I would add it directly to the article but I don't want to fall foul of conflict of interest guidelines: a close family member of mine was previously employed by Essex County Newspapers.
