[edit]Eric was a great Parliamentarian & I had the honour of meeting him briefly about a year ago, it would be nice, if someone could build up some more content about him, his personality and his achievements. A very sad loss.

Stance on homosexuality
[edit]Does this really need a heading of its own? I don't see why Forth's political opinions cannot be incorporated into the 'Parliamentary career' section.--Johnbull 17:11, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think so - in fact, I am not convinced we need to comment specifically on the issue at all, any more than we need to comment on his stance on a myriad other issues. He was a right-of-centre Conservative. -- ALoan (Talk) 17:54, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I don't think it should be there - if it wasn't highlighted before why on earth should it be highlighted now? --Harlsbottom 23:03, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. When I first saw the title I thought it was going to be some major revelation of which I was not previously aware, but alas no. It should be merged, or better still junked. --Ross UK 02:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- I have added a general statement about his right-of-centre views. -- ALoan (Talk) 10:36, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Style as an MP
[edit]- I've been led to believe that Forth never held surgeries (likening them to counselling sessions), and instead gave out his personal parliamentary telephone number to constituents so that they could contact him. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I also thought it might be an idea to include a few quotes, such as "declare your interest" to Ming Campbell as the latter was talking about pensions. Despite this, Campbell regarded him as a friend. I'd be interested in hearing views on how the entry could be updated. --Politicouk 04:19, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- The "no surgery" point is made in the Guardian obit, and in this article by Michael Gove in the Times, but I have not heard that he handed out his telephone number. Gove also mentions the Campbell quip (clearly a bit of witty banter rather than nastiness). This is a wiki - be bold! -- ALoan (Talk) 14:36, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Death
[edit]We need a section on his death, however brief, and the by-election it precipitated (which I correctly guessed the Tories would nearly lose). It seems incredible that someone could be taken so swiftly ill of cancer without any prior expectations, but perhaps some people just give up on hearing that kind of news and prefer to take a rain-check.
