New multiplayer system?

[edit]

Dosent this deserve a mention, i saw it on here on a earlier edit. Who ever removed it please put it back as its the only way people can find out about continuing to play the game online. Andy Lowson (talk) 12:51, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All the old players from the original lobby use save-ee.com to play online still, however there are a small amount of players that use GameRanger and Hamachi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.234.183 (talk) 18:13, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unamed Discussion

[edit]

Someone needs to add information about the Art of Conquest expansion pack which added the space age and many new campaigns. I'm too busy!Halidecyphon 15:09, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Somebody must continue adding more to this page for the good of EE fans.

I cleaned up much of the page today. I felt that information on Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest belongs on the page dedicated to it and therefore took the information about the campaigns and placed them there. Thunderforge 04:17, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I don't know why this was here, someone probably was confused. It was the template for links of all AOE games, so I deleted it. Someone can revert if it I missed the reason it was there-Hairchrm 18:40, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Empire Earth used to be in it, but I think someone trimmed down the navbox.--Clyde Miller 19:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's what happened. Yesterday, I took out all the "similar games" from the AoE template (which included Empire Earth), but I forgot to check which pages were using the template. Thunderforge 22:46, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay. I made a new navbox for Empire Earth games anyway.--Clyde Miller 22:54, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Cheates

[edit]

Okay, I know that the cheat codes are a bit of a tradition here on this article, but I've decided that it's best to delete them. StarCraft is an RTS game like Empire Earth and its article recently became a Featured Article. I think that it is a great model for all RTS games. The StarCraft article doesn't include cheat codes, therefore I've decided that cheat codes do not belong on the Empire Earth article. Thunderforge 01:03, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A history of the multiplayer of ee would be a nice addition.HISTORY This was created by one of the early and continuous players who played multiplayer and maybe a few excerpts from there could be added? I wouldn't mind creating something from that post to add to the wiki page if no one objected.

Population

[edit]

it states that houses are not needed to increase the population limit. Then what does? Im sure you have to build something or do something in order to let you create more units.

Population in Empire Earth works differently than it does in Age of Empires (and similar games). Population is at its max from the beginning of the game (i.e. if the population limit is set for 100, the player can only have 100 units at a time, although additional units may be acquired through conversion). Building the "Colosseum" wonder increases the owner's population limit while lowering that of another players. Hope that helps! Thunderforge 21:01, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What happens when you destroy the enemy's colisseum while their population is full? The population limit then drops but then what happens? Do random people die?--72.79.126.240 04:41, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If a player's Colosseum is destroyed, the players units still remain, but the player cannot train any more. A player can still gain units if they are given to him in a scenario or by converting enemy units (since in both cases, more units aren't being "trained"). Thunderforge 19:47, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What?!

[edit]

I never remember there being a "morale" system in EE

That's what houses and heros are for. Ever notice the green dotted circle around any of your units? --Mosquitopsu 02:04, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scenario Editor?

[edit]

This article does not mention that Empire Earth (both the first and second with their respective expansions) have a powerful scenario editor that allows the user to build maps, civilizations, intricate things like setting up triggers and events, and pretty much do anything they desire. This is a big component of Empire Earth and one that has contributed to its huge success and popularity. I'm not sure if theres already another article devoted to it's Scenario Editor (Ive looked), but there should be at least a mention of this capability.--Xlegiofalco 22:34, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zero Wing Reference?

[edit]

Recently, a trivia section was added and it explained the "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" cheat and it's reference to Zero Wing. Personally, I don't think it really belongs here, but I wanted to ask others, especially since I'm probably a bit too overprotective of this article :-) Also, it's already listed in List of cultural references to "All your base are belong to us".Thunderforge 23:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I played EE for a long time, and was constantly typing the "all your base" mantra; never had it resulted in a resource bonus. True, I may have mistyped while entering the phrase, but the only tried-and-true code I remember is "My name is methos", which grants the player a ridiculous amount of each resource, lifts Fog of War, and grants instant prodcution and building.

Languages

[edit]

I can roughly determine the style of language for each era.

Prehistoric- maybe Germanic?

  • ziegréano
  • pa'ama
  • gengehá
  • ya-cha
  • guiyérna

Stone through Copper- Greek-based

  • Talás
  • Kalos (either Kahlos or kaylos)
  • yyyyyyoyyyyyat-CHEE!

Copper onward- English

While that does seem interesting, I don't really think it belongs in the article. Thunderforge 21:26, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Game Guide Material

[edit]

Hi, I'm the dude who was working on Empires: Dawn of the Modern World (the cousin of this) and I'm not sure if I tagged this or not, but it might be good to decide what is too game guidish for this article. Nothing in particluar seems deletion worthy, but it's a little overdetailed in the gameplay. Maybe something like

  • Gameplay
    • PP1=overview
    • PP2=epochs (no huge detail of each one. Maybe a sentence and a name.)
    • PP3=technologies
    • PP4=nations (could be combined with PP5)
    • PP5=Wonders (may want to get rid of)

I'll try an do some myself and remove the tag. I've never played this particular game in the series, but I'll it'd be cool for it to reach GA. Clyde (talk) 04:45, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile Game

[edit]

Can somebody add to the platforms Mobile Phone Game because it is also for mobile phone. I should know, I have it on my phone.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.166.29.21 (talkcontribs)

Well you can add it in, but it is already mentioned in the legacy section and at top of the article above the text. In fact, it has its own article, Empire Earth Mobile.--Clyde (talk) 17:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I aplogize for removing the spaces in front of your first message, but it messed up the formatting of the page.

My previous referencing

age ref

civs ref - for civilizations it is the current page with the rest on the next page by clicking on the arrow. You may need to squint to see them but they are clearly visible (if you find a clear list of civilizations (hard to find) then you can exchange the reference). Incorrect Redirect

[edit]

The link for "Sergei Molotov", namesake of the Molotov Cocktail redirects here and probably shouldn't! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.223.4.43 (talk) 00:10, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That would be Vyacheslav Molotov (see Molotov cocktail). Sergei Molotov is a character only in EE. This is what the article looked like before it was redirected.--CM (talk) 01:22, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PING

[edit]

ping is the thing for multiplayer i dont understand, could it mean how good you are at the game, could it mean how many times you have won, or possibly how many games you have played??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.132.120.90 (talk) 18:59, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your ping has to do with your internet connection and how strong you are connected to the server. A rip sign means you will have no connection and you cannot host a game. So if it's green you can host and it ranges from 1 ping to 10 ping and the higher the ping, the less lag the server will have. −₪ÇɨгcaғucɨҲ₪ kaiden 20:48, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Multiplayer & removing sections

[edit]

"Multiplayer consists of Local area network and Internet play. Players log in as a certain name profile, and search for, or create, a game that concerns several other players. The game is a basic war between all sides, unless diplomacy is involved. Advancement within Multiplayer comes about most easily when the player populates town centres. 5 citizens per centre, and one centre per age. Patches of the game are unlikely because the developer of the game Stainless Steel Studios is no longer in operation.[12][13] The multiplayer servers were permanently shut down by Activision on November 3, 2008,[14] making players only be able to play through Local area network with the assistance of online services.[15][16]"

Where exactly is the basis for any of the information about LAN being the only way to play online? Yes, playing over LAN while using VPN tunneling services is possible. However, it fails to mention that you can also use the direct connect feature, since an entire community of players is currently built around that system.

Also, this description of online play totally blows. The grammar sucks and whoever wrote this definitely has an interesting outlook on the game. Yeah, populating SETTLEMENTS to make them TOWN CENTERS will help your economy boom, but it really doesn't have much to do with "advancement." Also, what is "one centre per age" supposed to mean? If I wanted, I could make thirty TCs per age or I could make zero.

Now, I'll also have to mention that some people don't appreciate it when others keep removing the section that informs people how to play online again. Those "others" claim that Save-EE is not a valid source for... anything I guess. To quote someone else:

"Some observations:

1) If Save-EE is not a valid source for the lobby being a method to play Empire Earth, then how is the link they have to Game Ranger? The only source they have for game ranger is http://www.gameranger.com/games/ and that just lists Empire Earth in a list. It doesn't even state you can play it online through Game Ranger, so I don't see how that page can be a source for that claim.

2) According to Wikipedia's own Verifiability policy, specifically http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:SELFPUB#Self-published_and_questionable_sources_as_sources_on_themselves

Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves
Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as:
         1. the material is not unduly self-serving;
         2. it does not involve claims about third parties;
         3. it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject;
         4. there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity;
         5. the article is not based primarily on such sources.

As best as I can tell, this website would be a self-published source. So, does the fact that the lobby supports Empire Earth fit these guidelines?

1. Although our system gains players, we have no real tangible benefit from this claim if it were false, and the only benefit received is just people using it which we gain nothing at all off of except for more games. Additionally, GameRanger would have the same benefit(s), more if there are ads or some other method for profit involved in the GameRanger system (haven't used it, so no idea). 2. It doesn't involve any claims about third parties. It involves a claim about our lobby client. 3. Don't think this one would apply either. 4. AFAIK, no one doubts you can play using the lobby client, and since it's free and takes less than a minute to download and get on it, anyone with doubts could easily log in and see for themselves that Empire Earth games can be played using the system (even if they don't have EE, they can see games being hosted and players joining, and that there are games in progress). 5. Obviously any mention of us along with GameRanger and Gamespy would not cause the article to be based mostly on such sources." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.234.183 (talk) 03:39, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The references to Gameranger and Gamespy were removed days ago. The current content is reasonable; if you have some specific suggestions for improving the content or grammar, you may suggest them here. The link to your site will remain blacklisted due to the aggressive spamming behavior of some of your members, and the site's failure to meet link inclusion guidelines. While your rational approach to the matter is appreciated, some other members of your community have been less helpful to your cause. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:48, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear spammers:

  1. Your website encourages and gives detailed instructions to visitors to download and install illegal pirated copies of the game, Wikipedia never links to these kinds of sites.
  2. GameRanger, GameSpy Arcade and Hamachi are notable pieces of software which aid in playing the game online, by networking users of the same games together. They are simply examples of alternatives. There's no reason why they would lie about what games they support.
  3. The content you keep adding is definitely unduly self-serving.
  4. Your website and software is unknown and not-notable.
  5. Every page on the website has a donate button at the bottom, that's a benefit. You are clearly advertising your website for more visitors and donators, Wikipedia is not an advertising service.

Until you find a reliable source which is independent of website, which says something about it, it will not be added to the article. Anyone adding it, or anything about it will be blocked from editing.--Thearmed1 (talk) 00:48, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jamie, The "spammers" as Thearmed1 calls them, just happen to want some notable information on the page. There was nothing to stop them from editing the page. If Wikipedia doesn't want just anyone to edit a page, then they should change that.

@ Thearmed1: Or, you're just a complete tool. Don't you have other pages to play watchdog on?

  1. Save-EE does not support any illegal activity.
  2. So, because those programs are either company venture or backed by large corporations, it makes them notable? Perhaps their overall impact on the world of gaming is a bit greater, but for Empire Earth (last time I checked, that's what this page is about) they play only a minimal role. Go ahead, mention them -- they deserve it; just don't leave out the other [bigger] part of the picture.
  3. Do you even know what "unduly" means? I wouldn't even say we're serving ourselves, but rather trying to serve others. We're simply trying gather Empire Earth's players like any sensible, dedicated group of players would. We want more people to play with.
  4. I'd say it's pretty damn well known, considering almost all of the game's greatest players know about it.
  5. We don't benefit from donations at all. We pay for a server out of our own pockets, which racks up quite the tally after awhile. The person whose name is on the account is actually in the red right now in terms of the money we receive from donations. If anything, this is a losing venture. As for visitors, I couldn't give two xxxx's and a oooo about the number of people who see the website. Also, to think that the other 3 services don't receive those same benefits that we would (if not better), then you're a complete imbecile. Every single staff member at Save-EE (including the programmer and webmaster) puts forth effort in their free time and they don't receive any reimbursement for it, whereas two of the fore-mentioned services most likely have a team of programmers, and the third makes a living off it. Put some thought into your argument. Oh, and I also challenge you to sort through each and every link on Wikipedia to make sure that none of them have a "donate" or "buy now" link. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.234.183 (talk) 05:00, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  1. There is an announcement in your forum, which gives detailed instructions how to download and install a pirated version of the game, dated September 2009. (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1572). And another one at viewtopic.php?f=10&t=734 dated April 2009.
  2. They don't need to be a company venture or back by large corps, just well established.
  3. You are advertising your site, and sourcing yourself in the process.
  4. This is just an opinion.
  5. Wikipedia is not obliged to advertise any websites, whether they have financial difficulties or not. This applies to non-profit/charity websites too.

Your website is going not be placed here, and personal attacks are just hindering your mission.--Thearmed1 (talk) 10:51, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The save-ee site doesn't come close to meeting requirements for notability. There's no point in discussing that matter further. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:28, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well then, Thearmed1, you of all people should know that you shouldn't even place links to other services (or anything for that matter), because that's "advertising." If I recall, their sites were also sourcing that information. Those services are no different from Save-EE yet somehow we end up being the "bad guys."

It just seems that you aren't able to understand any points that I'm getting at because anything logical blows right over your head. Oh, and you might as well also just delete half the EE article since it's "opinion." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.234.183 (talk) 18:06, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And for the record, I can't stop other people from "spamming" the page. Perhaps you'd think if enough people want some worthwhile information on an encyclopedia, it should be there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.234.183 (talk) 18:09, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not difficult to stop people from spamming the page. The link is already blacklisted, the paeg is protected, and we can block anyone who engages in other forms of disruption. OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:08, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

funny how they deleted the old piracy topic I linked to, luckily I saved a copy! A picture of it is at http://i45.tinypic.com/nwh62x.jpg --Thearmed1 (talk) 10:50, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to this [1] the game was announced in 1998 not 2000 as mentioned in the IGN article. Which source should we use here? Timur9008 (talk) 09:53, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would assume IGN made a mistake and/or used a later PR than the first/original announcement. And the company's website pre-dates the IGN article, so I would say use the earlier company's one. IGN doesn't actually list the source PR, so I'm not sure how they differ. —  HELLKNOWZ  TALK 11:26, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
