Talk:Elvis Costello/Archive 2
Pseudonym
[edit]just wondering why the pseudonym "Napoleon Dynamite" was not included in the info box for Elvis Costello
I'm working on an article for this album now, just a heads up in case anyone else was gonna start one :-) Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 13:29, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Says so there. None of the other appearences need referencing. 203.35.82.133 (talk) 08:28, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Filmography addition
[edit]Elvis guest starred in an episode of 30 rock. Randal6546 (talk) 20:26, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
this is already referenced on the 30 rick wiki page. the episode is here: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Kidney_Now! Randal6546 (talk) 20:44, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- To both above comments I would respectfully point out that Wikipedia is not seen as a reliable source. This is mainly because it is edited by everyone, any one of whom can, and unbelievably sometimes do, enter complete codswallop. Therefore, Wikipedia should never be cited as a source on another Wiki article. Thanks,
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:06, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well it looks like the wiki page I linked to has been taken down or something. anyway, the point is, Elvis' appearance in 30 rock is sourced within the 30 rock wiki page. if that source is good enough for the 30 rock page, i imagine it should be good enough for this page. i'm at work right now and websense blocks almost everything - i can't open the source at this time, but perhaps someone else could double check the source and add the reference into Elvis' wiki page. Randal6546 (talk) 13:14, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Actually the source currently cited in the 30 Rock article is hardly a third party, reliable source. However, I have found one that is, and this has been inserted into Costello's own article.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:14, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Derek. Randal6546 (talk) 14:52, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Song titles are not italicized
[edit]Just a note to say that I went through the article and changed all song titles from italicization to quotes. Per MOS, song titles are not italicized. If I missed any, which is entirely possible, I suggest they be changed. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:02, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Removal of Wikinews link
[edit]WN is a poor source from a content standpoint. This article already covers the event, and accordingly sourced. There is nothing to be learned from the WN article which isn't already covered by this article; thus, the value added by a poorly written and concise diversionary link from a 'sister project' is zero. Aesthetic reasons are not a sufficient for keeping it there. Ohconfucius ¡digame! 08:45, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Mother's maiden name
[edit]Most internet sources state his mother's maiden name was Costello. Is this correct? Sandcherry (talk) 00:34, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- The Thomson biography definitely says Lillian Alda Ablett, and by the sounds has sighted the marriage cert etc. It does seem strange that his mother's maiden name would be the same as his father's stage name, no? Doctorhawkes (talk) 01:40, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Here's a transcript of his birth registration which shows his mother's maiden name as Ablett. Crisso (talk) 18:55, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Diana Krall "Pianist"
[edit]The article says that he married the pianist Diana Krall. There is nothing wrong with being a pianist but that is not her only distinction, or even her major one. She is a singer of some renonwn and the article about her says that she is both. She is one of the foremost jazz vocalists of our age. And a lovely woman. 65.79.173.135 (talk) 20:57, 25 September 2012 (UTC)Will in New Haven65.79.173.135 (talk) 20:57, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Schools
[edit]I went to two schools with this chap: St. Edmunds Roman Catholic Primary (Whitton) and Archbishop Myers, which is the secondary modern in Hounslow referenced in the article, it later changed its name (unsurprisingly, it was an awful place - but I was in the year above and have lots of little anecdotes, none of which are of any use here, unfortunately). But I wonder if we should alter the article to reflect accurately these two schools? Patthedog (talk) 11:26, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Trump the dirt down
[edit]How come there is no reference to "Trump the dirt down"? Given given Costello's Left roots, it is kinda disappointing to see the article being lukewarm about Costello's reaction to Maggie's politics - may she burn at the bottom of the 9th hell.
Project2501a (talk) 08:35, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- I'm a little surprised it doesn't get a passing mention. BTW, it's "TRAMP the Dirt Down".
Discography
[edit]Taking Liberties (1990) is missing from the discography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.128.224.6 (talk) 17:45, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Cait O'Riordan
[edit]Isn't there an interview that Cait O'Riordan gave after she split from Costello, where she says they never actually married? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.150.94.62 (talk) 13:37, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Start by removing bad content?
[edit]As this article is (correctly) rated class-C, one of Wikipedia's worst quality ratings, I think it could be improved by removing some of the bad content even if this content cannot be immediately replaced by better content. A shorter but better quality article might encourage contributors to make more improvements. Currently, it's a pretty daunting mess.
By bad content, I mean content that is:
- Inaccurate
- Poorly sourced
- Trivial or unrelated to what makes the subject a person of note
- Repetitive
- Disorganized
- Poorly written and not in keeping with Wikipedia style and tone

MacManus or McManus?
[edit]Article currently says Declan Patrick McManus, while many published sources say Declan Patrick MacManus. --- Possibly ☎ 01:46, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- His 2015 autobiography Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink says "Copyright © Declan MacManus, 2015". However, in Chapter One he writes (in the context of whether he was related to the TV wrestler Mick McManus),
(pp. 2-3. My copy is the Penguin Random House UK edition, ISBN 978-0-241-00346-6 for what it's worth.) It isn't clear whether his father formally changed his name - probably not, just his own spelling given the context I suspect - so McManus may be legally correct and MacManus his preferred usage. JezGrove (talk) 08:57, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Mick McManus spelled his name like my Papa had, before my Dad added an a to make it "MacManus" because it looked posher and better in print.
- Thanks Jez, that's very clear. Should this perhaps be noted somewhere in the article? Martinevans123 (talk) 09:22, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, an explanatory note would be helpful. I don't have time right now but will try to add one later if someone doesn't beat me to it. JezGrove (talk) 09:27, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Jez. Some of us remember Kent Walton introducing Mick McManus (as well as Jackie "Mr TV" Pallo and all the others) on World of Sport!! Martinevans123 (talk) 11:54, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Costello & Toussaint's Hurricane Katrina concerts
[edit]The shows are referred to as September of 2006, followed by the album's writing, but the album was released before September 2006. If someone could clear the discrepancy up, it would be appreciated. SweetTaylorJames (talk) 22:32, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
