[edit]A prior version of this page included some serious inaccuracies. Claims that McCormack was the first serious female candidate for President completely ignore Shirley Chisholm's much stronger results four years earlier in 1972.
I am editing this out because A. this is not Shirley Chisholm's bio, and B. Because even though Chisholm had stronger results, she was on fewer ballots, she did not raise enough money to qualify for federal matching funds, and she did not recieve secret service protection.
The fact is Ellen McCormack was the first woman to qualify to recieve the same treatment as any of the male canidates. If you want to get technical Belva Ann Lockwood ran for President in the 1800's, and won the ellectoral votes of the State of Indiana, but she was never a serious candidate.
In refering to Ellen McCormack as the first serious candidate I was argueing that she was the first to recieve serious treatment while running for the nomination of one of the two major parties, Chilsolm though she got better results was not considered by many as a serious candidate. 216.201.33.20 05:57, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Ive just edited this article to include a number of sources at the bottom. 216.201.33.20 06:22, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I would appreciate whoever vandalized this page, if they would cut it out, and restore the information. Not only did you delete relevant information to this bio, you also deleted all the SOURCES for it, which is both irresponsible, and rediculus.
Put it all back, and do not move it again unless you place a comment on the talk page, and give a valid reason. 216.201.12.175 17:06, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
