Personal relationships

[edit]

Recently a contributor has removed any references in the article to Adams's relationship with Rozet. I don't care either way whether the article includes this information. But I do want to make sure due process is followed. In support of the textual insertion a verifiable source has been quoted; and supporting evidence presented. If someone wants to add an additional source refuting the claim, then they are welcome to do so. But to remove text and references without citing justification is simply pushing a POV agenda. Please can we keep this evidence-based. Contaldo80 (talk) 12:02, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And not lobg after the article was edited for historical fairness someone desperate for Starr and Adams to be gay vandalized the page.

I don't know who has made the comment above I'm afraid - as it is unsigned. However, despite offering to engage in constructive debate - we have ended up in a position close to vandalism. I am not 'desperate for Starr or Adams to be gay'. I am equally not desperate for them NOT to be gay. I simply have made a contribution based on academic evidence. If someone has evidence to the contrary then please use it and amend the article. The continued absence of this, however, is unconstructive. Contaldo80 (talk) 14:32, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catholicism

[edit]

I am not disputing her catholicism (even though you have not provided a soruce). What is objectionable is removing the LGBT category (which is better sourced ironically) while replacing it at the same time with the catholicism category. These are 2 separate and un-related actions; and they will continue to be reverted until you treat them as such. Contaldo80 (talk) 08:39, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"but she was not a member of their religious community (or any other)." Several sources say she was in a lay-order of a kind, Benedictine Oblate, though.[1][2][3][4] Is that different?--T. Anthony (talk) 05:44, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sexual relationship of Ellen Gates Starr

[edit]
Except the source is there: "The Education of Jane Addams" p361. Try paying attention to what's going on! Contaldo80 (talk) 15:15, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's fairly well accepted that they were domestic partners. And several academics have noted the strong romantic element to the relationship. This isn't speculation. The only thing we don't know is what they did in bed. So can we be mature about dealing with issues about homosexuality without relegating them to the insulting description of "speculation". In any case the sources are all there. If you are arguing that Starr was heterosexual then you are free to provide a source to back up that claim.
