Christie Page
[edit]Because of some sort of editing error, Christie does not have her own page.
Therefore, it's only fair that she be on the Eddy page until that's rectified.
- Christie did have her own page, but it was turned into a redirection link to the Tekken Characters article. I've now made it a Christie article again. Aphasia83 05:07, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Say what?
[edit]"Capoeira still has strong underlying philosophies which haven't been separated to create a corporate sport like has happened to most martial arts."
What, pray tell, is a corporate sport? Also, popularizing and de-mystifying a martial art does not negate the underlying philosophies of it - the underlying philosophies of judo, karate, aikido, tae kwon do, wu shu etc are still extant even though soccer moms might take their rugrats to martial arts lessons. Sentences like the one I quoted are not just blatantly POV and polemical, they're bad arguments to begin with. More exposure of capoeira means more capoeiristas, most of whom WILL be serious about it. Wikipedia articles aren't places to vent your opinion on why your sport is better than the other guy's sport because yours is 'purer' and 'not corporate'. Get a blog for that. Unigolyn 09:31, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think I might agree if I had better perspective on the scope of the issue, but I'm in over my head if we're talking about martial arts cultures. By all means, you sound qualified to make an objective revision. Phil Bond 02:21, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Link Error
[edit]The section where it says "Some of Eddy's moves are breakdancing, not capoeira. Specifically the flare and windmill movements." had linked the words "Flare" and "Windmill". While the Flare link directed to the proper breakdance description, the Windmill one did not. It linked to the page with actual windmills. I fixed this error.
Eddy Gordo is a graet cfapoeira player but I believe there should be more to Eddy`s story mode. I say this because few people know about this art and I also think it should be made a corperate sport. Capoeira is a art of history and present. Christie Monteiro has attracted more people and thats just another step to the art being known worldwide.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.64.1.171 (talk • contribs) 16:34, 18 November 2006.
Eddy's test name...
[edit]I have proof that Eddy's name was "Rally Jackson" before becoming "Eddy Gordo" but it was in an old issue of EGM that I obviously can't link to. How do I prove as much? SuperSonicTH 23:21, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Possible reception links
[edit]http://www.ubspectrum.com/article/40704 It states, "The next problem that gamers will face is the new “Rage” mode. Games like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe implemented this mode to give the casual player more of a chance and swing the games in the last few seconds of the match. For those who are Tekken veterans, this mode will entirely infuriate you, as in a bad Dane Cook joke, n00bs playing Eddy Gordo will end up winning the majority of matches through this highly controversial addition." How would you put this in the article?

New Info about Eddy
[edit]http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=11177
Q: How did you come up with the ideas for the unique characters in the Tekken series? Did any of the Tekken team's personal traits go into the characters?
T3 Team: A good example is Eddy, since he wasn't planned to be the character you see at first. The development team wanted to include a character who used Capoeira, so the idea was passed on to the artist team. Mr Kimoto requested the artist to make a female character for Capoeira. However the artist said it was too difficult to design a female character who used Capoeria, so there came Eddy. Also for Ling Xiaoyu, since most of the Tekken female characters are more than 25 years old, the team wanted a young girl. Also the 2-player colour of Kuma is Panda, in this game. This was actually intended for Tekken 1, but wasn't realised until Tekken 3.
Cool. Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 00:49, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

#10 Most Hated Game Character
[edit]http://www.nowgamer.com/features/881/the-10-most-hated-game-characters-ever 10. Eddy Gordo Annoying you in Tekken 3 This was a toss up between Street Fighter’s Ken and Tekken’s Eddy Gordo because let’s face it, both characters are the most hated in each franchise due to claims that they are horribly over-powered and cheap. While one NowGamer writer may disagree with Ken’s cheapness, Eddy is the true cheesemonger. Eddy shouldn't even have a command list, just pictures of both kick buttons, because if you hammer both endlessly, you will win every round. He’s a skill-less husk of a character.
This is great for reception. Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 01:30, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Reception on the Tekken 3 version of Eddy Gordo
[edit]http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=5787&gameid=3554
Eddy Gordo was by far the most stunning of the 20 characters with his break-dancing-like attacks.
Additionally, from the same article: Top 11 Tekken Fighters 2. Eddy Gordo This Brazilian fighter didn’t begin strutting his stuff until Tekken 3, but he immediately took the crown for the most dynamic moves in the game’s franchise. This is because he combines break-dancing and the martial arts form of capoeira. The result is a bunch of leg-twisting and body-turning moves that you wish you perform do at the clubs, minus everyone getting hurt, of course. As good as a fighter as Eddy Gordo is, his moves are more alluring to watch than anyone else involved in Tekken, so distraction may be his strongest weapon against enemies. http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=5787&pg=3&comments=

Tekken 4 Masahiro Kimoto Interview
[edit]http://www.accessmylibrary.com/article-1G1-95320661/word-creator-masahiro-kimoto.html "When we developed Tekken 3, we thought that Capoeira movements were suitable for a female character. Although at the time we chose Eddy from several characters we designed, this time we chose Christie instead of Eddy as we have successfully made an attractive female character." --Masahiro Kimoto, GameNOW, October 01, 2002, "A Word With the Creator.(Masahiro Kimoto, developer of video game Tekken 4)(Interview)"

A sentence by Dwight H. Little on the Eddy fight scene and others
[edit]http://www.movieweb.com/news/exclusive-dwight-h-little-talks-tekken
"With the game, you have all these characters with their signature moves. You kind of get into that a little bit, but was there a balance you tried to strike between not being so slavish to the video game and trying to create something new?
Dwight H. Little: Well, we wanted to pay homage to it. I think if you look at the Eddy Gordo fight and some of the other specific fights, we do try to give the fighters moves that are reminiscent of the game or are a part of the game. We didn't, as you said, become slaves to it, but, at the same time, we didn't want to ignore it. If you look at Dragunov's moves and Yoshimitsu's moves, we studied it very, very carefully, so people would have the feel of the game. My feeling is that every single fight is its own story, with a beginning, middle, and end. We wanted to have great story elements, and it is a balancing act. I think the Rojo character, played by Roger Huerta, they get the flavor of it."
