I think the lead section is slightly, albeit unintentionally, misleading on the seat's history. Firstly to say that "The seat has a diverse electoral history" is not entirely true. This seat has only existed since 2005, since when it has only returned a Conservative MP (albeit with smallish majorities at times). In fact of the seats that have existed in Scotland since new boundaries were introduced for the 2005 election only five other have been represented by the same party continuously. It might be better to say that "the area covered by the seat has a diverse electoral history". It is indeed true that parts of the constituency belonged to predecessor seats that had a more varied past in electoral terms. However care needs to be taken with some of the comments. It should be noted for instance that in the 1990s the Lib Dem vote in Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale fell significantly and the seat was won with less than a 40% share and so was not a safe seat by this point. Equally in 1997 Dumfriesshire went Labour by a large majority. Dunarc (talk) 20:58, 30 April 2020 (UTC) Amended by Dunarc (talk) 20:18, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
New boundaries and change in vote from notional previous result
Like many seats, this changed slightly for the 2024 election. Most of the information here is for the older boundary. The change in vote is from an estimate of what the vote might have been if the previous election had used the current boundaries. For most of the parties contesting the seat the estimated difference due to the boundary changes is very small. Most of the difference between actual votes at previous election with different boundary and actual votes at latest election with new boundary is due to changes in the level of support for the various parties, rather than the boundary change.David196 (talk) 13:23, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I don’t understand your comments. Please could you explain what you think is arguable in my comment? Which part(s) is (are) not sensible? I understand that you don’t want differences between notional previous votes and latest actual results to be included, but why did you delete my chart of actual vote numbers from 2005 -2024? Will you reply in the other discussion, which is about notional results and changes/differences from notional results, to give a reason for deleting the chart of actual votes for this constituency? David196 (talk) 11:05, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
