The Doeg (or Tauxenent) were never affiliated with the Nanticoke or Piscstaway. They were affiliated with the Powhatan Paramountcy of Virginia, and spoke Algonquin, not “Piscataway”.There are descendants of the Doeg/Tauxenent still living in Virginia today. Their Fairfax County chief is Keziah Boston. Freedom Hill Park in Fairfax County has commemorative signs about the presence of some of Fairfax County’s Doeg/Tauxenent/Pamunkey descendants.

[edit]

Piscataway tribal people are one of several Maryland tribes, not the only one. The Doeg/Tauxenent were historically only affiliated with the Powhatan Paramountcy of Virginia. Powhatan (Pamunkey), the head of the Paramountcy, had a son named Taux Powhatan. He was named in honor of his Tauxenent mother. His name symbolized the union of the Pamunkey and Tauxenent. The Doeg/Tauxenent/Pamunkey spoke Algonquin, not “Piscataway”, which is also an Algonquin language. 108.28.229.48 (talk) 08:23, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
