Fair use rationale for Image:Ashani Sanket.jpg

[edit]

Image:Ashani Sanket.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:44, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ashani Sanket and Distant Thunder

[edit]

When Satyajit Ray's films have been exhibited in the English-speaking world, the first two, Pather Panchali and Aparajito, retained their original titles, but the third one, Apur Sansar, is known in the English-speaking world by its English-language title, The World of Apu. This pattern of using original titles for some Ray films and English-language titles for other Ray films has continued through subsequent decades. In the instance of Ashani Sanket/Distant Thunder, research has indicated that the English-language title, Distant Thunder has been used for this film's marketing, distribution, exhibition and reviews in publications across the English-speaking world (US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand). The film poster [1], July 14, 1973 film notice in The New York Times [2] and its DVD release as reviewed in the November 27, 2012 issue of The New Yorker [3] all display the title Distant Thunder. No posters from the US, UK, Canada or Australia advertise this film's marketing and distribution as Ashani Sanket. Therefore, per WP:COMMONNAME and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (films)#Foreign-language films, I am moving the title from Ashani Sanket to Distant Thunder (1973 film). Related discussions on this topic may be also found at Talk:The World of Apu#Requested move as well as User talk:Cop 663#"Consistency with other foreign language film articles," but not Bengali film articles! —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 04:04, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
