Bicycling in New York
[edit]Saw the Bicycling in Chicago article but couldn't find anything similar for New York City and, IMHO, there is so much more to say about bicycling here than there is in Chicago. What with the ubiquitous delivery guys, the messengers, and, lest we forget, the NYPD! I've put up a rough set of sections but feel free to change anything and everything. --RegentsPark (talk) 16:04, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Doored and other city biking terms
[edit]I suppose one should explain what 'doored' means in the context of cycling in NYC. Any ideas where it would go? A Dangers and annoyances section perhaps but that seems too travel-like. Is there a set of specific to New York cycling lingo?--RegentsPark (talk) 22:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Six Day Racing
[edit]This article should mention the history of Six Day Racing in Madison Square Garden. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.99.235.70 (talk) 20:25, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
NYC bike culture
[edit]For essays and art work by city cyclists, see this exhibition catalogue published in 2007 (free download, 2 MB). Especially relevant is the timeline of bike advocacy, pp. 32-35. LolaNYC (talk) 20:39, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Bicycles have been banned throughout New York City.
[edit]Apparently, it seems that the city of New York has recently put a new ordinance into effect that completely bans bicycles from the city. And that means all 5 boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. Under this new ordinance, bicycles, tricycles, quadricycles, and unicycles can not be ridden on either the street, the sidewalk, or the alley. Not in residential areas, not in commercial areas, not in downtown areas, and not in industrial areas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fishing4327 (talk • contribs) 22:20, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Promotional tone requires checking
[edit]I understand that people are very passionate about bicycling in NYC, but this page is not a promotional tool that can be filled with a high number of external links within the text—the same applies to all Wikipedia pages. I have revised one section of the page today, but do not presently have time to review the entire article.--Soulparadox (talk) 08:16, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Bike Lanes
[edit]There was much coverage and controversy over the Bike lanes. I am debating to either create a section in this article or possibly create it's own article. I will see based on the sources. So far I am finding well covered sources on this topic itself. It looks like I will create an article for itself and add key points into this article. Let me know other opinions.Caseeart (talk) 00:36, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Vision Zero: 10775 pedestrian injuries, 148 pedestrian kills, 4592 bicyclist injuries 18 bicyclist kills due to Motor Vehicle drivers
[edit]I would suggest adding a reference to the Vision Zero program:
In 2016, in NYC citywide, there was 10775 pedestrian injuries, 148 pedestrian kills, 4592 bicyclist injuries 18 bicyclist kills due to Motor Vehicle drivers[1], which is less than in the USA, where in 2015, 5,376 pedestrians and 818 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Traffic Safety Facts). These two modes accounted for 17.7 percent of the 35,092 total U.S. fatalities that year[2].

@Epicgenius: I am surprised that there isn't an article on this already. Do you agree that it makes sense to create one?--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 20:59, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
- Kew Gardens 613, I think the reason why there's no separate article on bike lanes/infrastructure yet is because it could be described in this article as well. This page is pretty deficient in terms of content (it is only rated start-class) and could be expanded with bike infrastructure. epicgenius (talk) 21:01, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
- I second these thoughts and want to revive this conversation... @Kew Gardens 613 @Epicgenius @Jim.henderson Wil540 art (talk) 18:48, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Wil540 art, thanks for the ping. I actually was trying to search for "Bike lanes in New York City" earlier today, before I'd even seen this thread, which is a funny coincidence. That being said, I think a wider-ranging article about bike infrastructure might be better compared with a narrower article on bike lanes. There's a bunch of bike infrastructure (that isn't just bike lanes), such as bike parking and greenways, that can be talked about. – Epicgenius (talk) 00:15, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Epicgenius I agree, a wider-ranging bike infrastructure in NYC article would be a good place to start. A handy map would also be key. @DutchTreat pinging map master DutchTreat here. - Wil540 art (talk) 19:56, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Wil540: I think about what kind of existing or new map is needed for bike lanes in NYC. A most useful topic. DutchTreat (talk) 11:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think parking and greenways and infrastructure can be included in this article, there's no need to split the content with a new page at this point, and it's nice to have a comprehensive page like this. Reywas92Talk 21:09, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
