Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that Close combat is merged with Hand-to-hand combat since they both seem to be the same thing. Interqwark talk contribs 17:17, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. They are not the same thing. A close combat may involve firearms and other distance weapons when used at short range, while hand-to-hand combats only refer to unarmed combats or those with melee weapons. --Neo-Jay (talk) 16:54, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Maybe these could be distinct article subjects, but these articles are currently not distinct. And having them separate implies that there is a point of closeness where "close combat" ends and "hand-to-hand" begins; neither term is typically used with that distinction assumed. We can't demand or enforce that the world uses these terms more precisely. There's overlap both in use and in the extant articles; merging will allow inquiries to either to access the full range of blurred meanings. --A D Monroe III(talk) 22:04, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose a merge, but agree with moving some material back to the broader page (Close combat). It seems to me that the problem is most egregious in the examples section, so I've boldly moved this to the broader topic, where the arguments regarding definition don't apply. Perhaps that move is sufficient without requiring a merge of the rest. Klbrain (talk) 03:03, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
