[edit]

I feel there's a lot wrong with this paragraph...

"Claridge's has two ground floor bars - a main bar and a cigar bar known as the Fumoir. A wide variety of drinks and cocktails are available here and a good stock of well-stored Cuban cigars is kept in each of the bar's humidors. Thanks to the British government's "no exceptions apart from the House of Commons" approach to the forthcoming smoking ban, from June 2007 these bars will no longer be a haven for cigar-smokers to enjoy some of Cuba's finest and the humidors will probably be sold to collectors."

It seems to have an axe to grind with reference to the smoking ban and is factually inacurate (there will be many exceptions to the smoking ban in England which can be found on this very website - eg nursing homes.). It does not cite it's references and wanders into areas of open conjecture by saying the humidors will probably be sold to collectors. I will therefore hack this back to something more keaping with an encyclopedia. RogMcDog 12:11, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Art Deco?

[edit]

The article says the current building began construction in 1895, but the Art Deco article says the movement started in France in the 1910s. What aspect of the architecture seems like Art Deco? Abductive (reasoning) 01:47, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps read this for details https://web.archive.org/web/20120427025354/http://www.claridges.co.uk/about-the-hotel/art-deco-design.aspx MarkDask 04:36, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As I suspected, the interior is done in Art Deco. But what's the exterior's style? Abductive (reasoning) 07:04, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The exterior of Claridge’s is Victorian. The second building extension of Claridge’s is art deco and the opening of the extension led to the interior of the Victorian building adopting art deco influence.
There are some art deco aspects on the exterior of the Victorian building such as the entrance canopy, revolving doors and some ground floor windows.
