Disambiguate "Statutory city"
[edit]Hrebicek, you added a {{See also}}
link to Statutory city, but that's a disambiguation page. And there's no page specifically for statutory cities in Hungary, so it's not clear which one should be linked to. Maybe Statutory city (Czech Republic)? (In that case the relationship between them should probably be explained in the article.)
(P.S. Placing {{Diff}}
in the {{See also}}
template breaks the formatting, and placing it afterward forces it to display on a new line. If anyone has a solution, please fix.) Languorrises (talk) 17:15, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Administratively seperated?
[edit]Are "towns with count rights" considered administratively a part of the county that surrounds them, or are they administratively seperated? I'm not totally sure what level of administration these cities are, if they are county-equivalents or still subordinate to their counties, but a half-step above "regular" towns in their rights/responsibilities. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:21, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
- Anyone? --Criticalthinker (talk) 20:38, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- Cities with county rights used to be administratively separated and considered equivalent to counties until they were abolished in 1971. "County cities" and the modern cities with county rights that exist since 1990 in contrast have always been considered parts of the counties, and are a half-step above regular towns in the county, as you've said. They fulfil some duties and exercise some rights that would otherwise be left up to the counties in normal cities, either alone or in cooperation with the county council. On the other hand, Budapest - the capital - has retained its full autonomy and is still considered a subdivision equivalent to a county. As such, currently Pest county is the only county in Hungary with its administrative capital (Budapest) outside the administrative boundaries of the county itself. - Thank you. If a source can be found to site, it'd be really helpful to add this fact to the page. The page probably needs to be done to have a seperate "history" and "description" sections, too, as it's kind of jumbled right now. Either way, it needs to be made clear that the cities are subordinate to their respective counties as opposed to administratively seperated. --Criticalthinker (talk) 10:16, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Follow-up on this one. Does anyone have a link to the specific law that spells out exactly the responsibilities/obligations and delegated powers of a megyei jogú város? I've translated some articles and city pages where they mention that it requires them to provide some services county-wide, but how does that work in those counties with two or more cities with county rights? --Criticalthinker (talk) 00:25, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- According to the Act CLXXXIX of 2011 on the local governments of Hungary (2011. évi CLXXXIX. törvény Magyarország helyi önkormányzatairól):
21. § (2) A megyei jogú város települési önkormányzat, amely – törvényben meghatározottak szerint, az abban foglalt kivételekkel – azokat a közszolgáltatásokat is biztosítja, melyek saját területén túl a megye egészére vagy nagy részére kiterjednek.
- In my translation:
21. § (2) A city with county rights is a municipal government that provides public services – as defined in, and with exceptions set by, other act(s) – beyond its area, for the entirety or a large part of the county.
- (emphasis mine). It’s probably not exactly defined what “a large part of the county” is, and I don’t know what that/those “other act(s)” is/are, though. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:58, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link! Yes, the "large part of the county" is what was of interest to me. Perhaps it means the járás in which the city is geographically located. Without having clicked over to the Act, perhaps it's not defined. Anyway, if you or anyone else comes across the "other acts", let me know. What else I was able to find is that seemingly the most important perks that comes with the megyei jogú város designation is that there are specific funds reserved for the development of these special cities that aren't available to regular cities, towns and villages.
