A few points could be improved here

[edit]

Reading this article on Christine Blasey Ford, I feel that some points could be clarified or presented more accurately. The article states that Ms. Ford grew up "in the suburbs of Washington, D.C." which is a very vague and general description. In fact, she grew up in Potomac, Maryland, one of the very wealthiest suburbs of Washington, D.C.

The narrative of the "alleged sexual assault" leaves out the significant detail (contained in Ms. Ford's Congressional testimony, shown on television) that previous to the party where the incident happened, the young Christine had been practicing her swimming at the nearby Columbia Country Club (still in existence). As a result, she still had her one-piece bathing suit on under her clothes at the time of the attack, which explains why Kavanaugh was not able, in his hasty efforts, to disrobe her and so violate her. I would say that is a meaningful detail.
Further on, the article quotes a therapist's notes to say that Kavanaugh attended "an elitist boys' school". The word "elitist" implies an ideological position. I am not sure this is factual. I think perhaps the quote should be dropped and it could be paraphrased to say that Kavanaugh attended "an elite boys' school." The fact is that Kavanaugh attended Georgetown Prep, which is definitely an elite school (expensive, private and well-connected); but whether it is consciously "elitist," or was at the time Kavanaugh went there, is difficult to prove.
As a native of Montgomery County, Maryland, this writer is familiar with the localities where this incident happened and has some knowledge of the schools involved (Holton Arms, Georgetown Prep). Girls from Holton Arms frequently dated boys from Georgetown Prep at the time the famous incident happened, so that is how the future Supreme Court Justice and Ms. Ford happened to be at the same party. Both schools are located in Montgomery County. 167.102.146.2 (talk) 18:03, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
