Degree Catalog
[edit]90% of this article is a list of degrees & certificates offered, apparently copy-pasted from the college's website. I think that's inappropriate for an encyclopedia article & unmaintainable (degrees are created & deprecated every year). Furthermore, there's almost no elaboration about the degrees, they're just listed by name. No good Wikipedia article on an educational institution looks like this, it's just inconsistent and strange. Why is this listing here? Would anyone object if it was removed? Or superceded by an "Academics" section which gives a better, broad overview of the school's offerings? Phette23 (talk) 23:37, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- I agree this article does need some improvements and I will be working very hard to improve itCcr29872 (talk) 14:58, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- It is not very easy to read either, it would seem to be more useful if it was some how broken down in a way that elaborated more in the terms of what the different "majors" and Certifications are possibly linking to the potential career pages that the degrees pertain to. Just a thought Educ84love (talk) 20:46, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
I went in and cleaned up the giant list in preperation of the articles to be placed in there that discuss the specific programs and degrees. There is still some formatting that needs to be addressed as far as headings, subheadings, etc.I went ahead in some of the topics and made it into more of a paragraph type of list. Educ84love (talk) 10:24, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Wow I had just reformatted the Continuing Education and Notable Alumni section a few days ago to match the other headings.Ccr29872 (talk) 21:40, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry I wasn't trying to step on toes but, Eric had said that the list needed to be removed. I didn't see that you had made changes to that part, I was trying not to make any changes to anything that anyone had done. I apologize if it messed with your section, let me know what you want put back and I can take care of it since I changed it if you want Educ84love (talk) 22:02, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ok I see where you had edited the formatting, I kept that formatting of the title heading, when I edited the section I tried to format it so that each persons assignment could be individually edited as much as possible. The text underneath the heading didn't show that was reformatted, if it had been I apologize. Also just so you know I removed the citation for that (and other) sections because they all led to a weird page, not the intended catalog page.Educ84love (talk) 22:12, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Athletics Section
[edit]Shouldn't the athletics section mention the Lady Skipjacks basketball team, which has won the regional championships the last two years in a row? Phette23 (talk) 22:39, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- I saw mentioned about the Alumni Graduation Photos, what about placing team pictures from the previous years of sports on here. Also placing the photos of the Championship teams on the page? You could give a brief recap of the seasons along with the photos. I do know there are photos right next to Frank's office in the hallway. Jandrews22 (talk) 14:57, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- With the sections I have chose to write more about, I know volleyball just came back to chesapeake and personally knowing the coaches, could there be information placed about the teams before they stopped having volleyball and also the teams when they brought volleyball back? Jandrews22 (talk) 15:01, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- On the Chesapeake College website there is a section about the Hall of Fame, I think this should be added to the Wikipedia page.Jandrews22 (talk) 15:26, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Pictures of the various sports facilities should be added to get a better idea of what Chesapeake College has to offer. For example, the pool, the baseball/softball field and the gym.Mys7688 (talk) 15:02, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Notable Alumni
[edit]Wouldn't it be nice if the famous graduates from Chesapeake College included a picture of them with their graduating class? Ccr29872 (talk) 14:58, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- I had put two external links to the Notable Alumni, one was an "official" Facebook page and the other link was from the Maryland State of Delegates. However, both were deleted. One was deleted due to possible spam link and the other may have been labeled incorrectly. I had it as an external link and maybe it could have been an internal. I'm wondering since the Facebook link was an official Facebook page could I reverse the decision to delete it? I will check on the other link to see if it could be an internal link instead.Ccr29872 (talk) 17:45, 20 April 2013 (UTC) Ok I see where my external link for Baker to the Maryland House of Delegates was an external link already listed on his personal Wikipedia page.Ccr29872 (talk) 17:45, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- In circumstances of my own edits I found out that social media pages do not fall under the reliable sources which is why the deletion may have occured. Just an FYI since I had a question regarding sources answered I thought I would share the info.Educ84love (talk) 18:54, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Eastern Shore Higher Education Center
[edit]Is it ok to put information that is on the website for the building directly on the page or is it redundent since I added the link to the website directly to the page? Educ84love (talk) 20:43, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- You shouldn't just paste the HEC's URL into the middle of the article, which it what (correct me if I'm wrong) it looks like you did. That edit was reverted & rightfully so. You should use the HEC's site as a citation to back up what you write in that section. Does that make sense? You can't simply point to a URL, otherwise Wikipedia would be just one big list of links pointing elsewhere with no writing at all.
- I also want to discuss listing the HEC's website in the External Links section. I think it's perfectly relevant, certainly as relevant as the college's main website. ConcernedVancouverite, can you explain why you deleted it? You linked to the policy on external links which I don't think justifies the decision, that link is the official website and doesn't fall under any of the "links to be avoided" categories. Phette23 (talk) 12:52, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for your input, still getting the hang of this. I didn't think that I put it dierctly in the middle of the article I had intended to place it under the heading. I did put the website under the external links heading as well. I neglected to think about the fact that even though we are activley working on our pages as a project I should wait to do some edits as they might be misconstrued. I will have to say though the intention is to expand on the page and not make it a page of links that was pure oversight and unintentional. And I too am curious as to the justification of "links to be avoided" isEduc84love (talk) 17:41, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Early Childhood Development Center
[edit]There should be more detailed information about this daycare center. Such as, are the children separated into "classrooms",if so, is this a teaching facility and what is the adult to child ratio in each room, what age ranges are accepted and maybe upload some photos including the inside of the building and the play equipment outside of the building.Mys7688 (talk) 15:09, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Alliances with other Institutions
[edit]Macc - Maryland Association of Community Colleges
[edit]Maryland's 16 community colleges provide an abundance of outstanding early college access programs for high school students, giving them the opportunity to accelerate their pursuit of a college degree or certificate. [1] According to the MACC 2013 Databook, for the Fall semester of 2012 Chesapeake College had a total of 1,075 credited transfer students, 552 were enrolled full time and 523 were enrolled part time.[2] For the fiscal year of 2012 Chesapeake College awarded a total of 272 degrees, where139 were Transfer Degrees, and133 were Career Degrees.[3] For the fiscal year of 2012 Chesapeake College made up 23% of career degrees awarded in Maryland community colleges.[4]
ARTSYS – The Articulation System for Transferring Courses from one Maryland University or College to Another
[edit]Chesapeake College help students meet their educational requirements for graduation, transfer to a four year college or university, or obtaining training for a career. Chesapeake College participates in ARTSYS, a computerized data information system that helps ease the transfer of students from Maryland community colleges to all institutions within the University of Maryland system.[5] ARTSYS allows students and advisors at the institutions to ascertain the transferability status of any community college course. It indicates whether the course is transferable and, if so, indicates the receiving institution’s equivalent course number or applicability towards elective credits. It also indicates the general education area(s), at both the sending and receiving institutions, applicable to the course. [6] --Kellywilley (talk) 18:45, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- Just wanted to let you know that you inserted your text on the talk page not the article page, wasn't sure you realized that, or if you were doing that so people could review it before you added it to the page. Also thought I would mention that the first sentence under ARTSYS section could be considered bias, or promotional, if you will, by the word "help" "ease" in context, since there may be people out there who might disagree with that statement. I would check and see if ARTSYS has an existing wikipedia article that you could link to so that people who want more info on ARTSYS could click on the link and find out more without leaving wikipedia.Educ84love (talk) 20:46, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- I posted it here just to see if theres something else that I need to fix before posting it in the main article. Thanks for the information, Ill definitely take your advice.--Kellywilley (talk) 00:51, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Historical Events Section issue
[edit]This section is questionable as to its relevancy for the page. There is a page for Wye Mills which seems more appropriate for this information. It also reads a little more like an editorial page rather than an encyclopedic source. Educ84love (talk) 14:41, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- I agree, these events have nothing to do with the college, they belong on the Wye Mills page. I'll reach out to the editor who added them. Phette23 (talk) 23:01, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
