Site of the first ever NASCAR race needs more than stub status.

High Importance

[edit]

This article should be Top importance. The track is one of the oldest in the sports, holds the All star race, and one of the 4 crown jewels in NASCAR, the World 600. This deserves Top status. Casey14 00:35, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is the old track in Charlotte, the site of the first NEXTEL Cup race. You are thinking of Lowe's Motor Speedway. Royalbroil 15:39, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photo Request

[edit]

I am requesting an image of the historical marker marking the first NASCAR "Strictly Stock" (now NEXTEL Cup) race at the track. [1] Royalbroil 15:39, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates

[edit]

The coordinates need the following fixes:

  • The coordinates in the Charlotte Speedway article point to "The Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway" in Concord, NC.

Charlotte Speedway no longer exists. It held it's last race in 1956. The correct approximate coordinates are: 35.238517 -80.943757 ESPN's NASCAR Now aired a piece on the history of the 3/4 mile track today. The son of the track's owner described the layout of the track to a reporter. The grandstands were parallel to I-85. The following link confirms the approximate location (Little Lock+Wilkinson Ave). http://www.autoracingrecords.com/arr/tracks.php?lid=27282 69.23.143.137 (talk) 16:02, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
