Kinnear gaffe

[edit]

"Newcastle United FC manager Joe Kinnear angered N'Zogbia mispronouncing his name as inzsomnia."

Shouldn't that be "insomnia"?

Feudonym (talk) 04:37, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most probably. Unfortunately someone appears to have taken it on themselves to replace many of the references to the player to his new 'nickname'. Repaired. Gh0ti-2 (talk) 14:41, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It should go directly into the text as an inline citation, reference for the statement in the article. if it's a reliable source, I'd be more than happy to help. – Toon(talk) 20:53, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm 100% certain that this isn't true. I have looked back into where it came into existance and it seems to have come about via some lazy journalism and vandalism. The claim is initially inserted in J-WT's wiki-page in this [1]edit (note the vandalism insertion of "mongrel" too) on 27/1/08. It is then inserted on this article [2]here, although not supported by the source used, also on 27/1/08. The source that we now have [3]is written on 28/1/08, when both pages have the claim on it, unsourced. This has then been used as the source to back up the claim. I have therefore removed the claim as not having an independent valid source, prior to 27/1/08. If someone can provide proof from prior to that date, when the claim was made here, then I think that should be acceptable, or something confirming it directly by either of the people involved. This article from The Independent is dated 25/1/08, which pre-dates your initial edit by a couple of days. Doesn't necessarily make the claim true, but it does mean it's not sourced from that initial edit. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 23:38, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good work, sir. I am now probably going to have to trawl further through the edits to J-WT's article to see if it's been inserted unsourced prior to that article! It looks like I'm probably going to have to review 500+ edits, so my life is meaningless if I do it. Fol de rol troll (talk) 21:51, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have now done this waste of time and discovered that it was actually originally inserted here [4] on 23/1/08 and linked to a false source. So the original problem becomes live again, except we now need to trace a source prior to 23/1. Fol de rol troll (talk) 22:28, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aston Villa

[edit]

As a winger/midfield player his assist statistics are of great importance. He provided 10 assists in the 2010/2011 English Premier League in addition to his 9 goals for Wigan Athletic . ````

*The article's lead section should be a summary of the whole article - it should be about two good-sized paragraphs for an article of this size.
  • Is there any more information available about his early life? This section is a bit sparse.
  • The section about the controversy surrounding his move to Newcastle needs to be sourced.
  • Clarify the bit about Sir Bobby Robson's last signing - like adding, ... before the manager was sacked or something similar.
  • Citation 5 doesn't cover N'Zogbia's "cult status" - this definitely needs sourcing.

*The final paragraph of the Newcastle United section needs a source.  Done

  • The Wigan section needs to be rewritten as a paragraph and everything should be sourced.
  • The International career section needs to be sourced - there isn't one in sight.
  • The External Links could do with a link to his official Wigan profile.

The prose in the article needs some tweaking; it's not very encyclopaedic in certain places, and doesn't flow very well.
