[edit]Removed the three paragraphs that were added in the latest addition as they were nothing more than polemic and brought nothing to the article. The formatting also left something to be desired. --Si42 22:14, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- True, it wasn't a great piece of writing, written in great haste. I do think I have a valid point though. House prices have forced a lot of people out of the area and the community has suffered because of this. Swanky cafes and bars and an influx of young professionals are not necessarily what make a real community. I find the whole 'Chapel A' stuff really twee and the whole marketing of Chapel Allerton as a trendy place to live a bit depressing and snobbish, I also can't stick pompous radio four comedy game shows like 'Just a Minute' and Betty's tea shops really annoy me as well. I do, however, genuinely like wheat beer.
- Ha, yeah I'm not entirely sure what makes a 'real community'... I do sympathise with your point, but it would have made more sense here - I don't really like the last couple of sentences as they stand either (they do feel a bit like an ad placed by an estate agent). I also happen to hate Betty's as well.--Si42 21:33, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
How is Chapel Allerton any more bohemian than any other area in the city?
The dot on the map needs moving right a bit. I don't know how to do this.
Dominion Cinema
[edit]I have removed the image (which is readily available at the reference given). There are loads of pictures on Leodis, but we should only use them if they add something. Chapel Allerton has so many current buildings worthy of showing, but I think that for an encylopedia this must be limited and selective. The Dominion caused a bit of a stir in 1911 by just being a picture house and thus modern and thus unwelcome, but I do not seriously think it is sufficiently important to be included. Chemical Engineer (talk) 18:46, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
I would be inclined to disagree. The Dominion is a significant both historically and architecturally to the Chapel Allerton area. While Chapel Allerton stil has noteworthy buildings, many of an art deco style, there are none so large as the former Dominion. I would also argue there should be some variety of what the page shows, at present it shows mainly pubs, churches and images of the centre of Chapel Allerton. I would say this building has more signifiance then brick built and frankly quite ugly single story Methodist chapels. I would however say that this should be brought perhaps to broader consensus, in the meantime, could no one remove the image as it is on a fair use licence, and should anyone remove it, then this breaches its fair use. Straw poll, use File:Dominion Cinema art here?

[edit]Lead image
[edit]I have changed the lead image, however it sometimes has trouble loading up onto the page. I was going to change it back again, but noticed there was a problem with many images, previously OK (See images on the Spanish Chapel Allerton page, for instance, many which work fine on the English page). The lead image seems to be working on other pages which I have tried it on. I am assuming this is just a blip as commons is also playing up, so am leaving the image in place. If the problem persists, I will revert it. Mtaylor848 (talk) 15:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have had this problem before with no solution. Images which work elsewhere do not always work in the infobox.Chemical Engineer (talk) 17:01, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- By trial and error I find that increasing the infobox to at least 400px allows the picture to appear. (it is panoramic). However, I suggest it would be better used even wider outside the infobox.Chemical Engineer (talk) 20:35, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Probably best to move the image out of the infobox as anything over 240px distorts the infobox. Keith D (talk) 00:57, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
