Comments about the article

The article is well organised and introduces theoretical basis and equipment of the ceria based thermochemical cycles. The theoretical basis is presented in detail, using chemical formulae to describe the redox reactions in the cycle. In the equipment section, two types of reactors are also introduced, but it would be better if there is a brief history of equipment development. Observations and suggestions for improvements

The following observations and suggestions for improvements were collected, following an expert review of the article within the Science, Technology, Society and Wikipedia course at the Politecnico di Milano, in July 2024.

  • The topic is ceria-based cycles "applied to CSP", issues and reactors are focused on solar radiation exploitation. Much more limited than the general title given. A brief explanation of why they are mainly applied to CSP is missing, as well as the other possible applications.
  • Some minor typos and pagination to be adjusted. Convention for decimal separator is dot, so 2.300 K is not clear (and all the others).
  • 'Sufficient' reduction is not a scientific description. Sufficient for what? Minimum value of conversion?
  • Why is it difficult to acquire the methane feedstock? It is easier than having a pure CO2 feedstock at the moment... is it a disadvantage? Nowadays hydrogen production is from methane.
  • Better to specify that are reactors for concentrated solar radiation. Are the reactors presented for reduction step? Oxidation step? Both? Not really clear.
