Actual desegregation.
[edit]I was the first white graduate of Central. I attended as the only white student from winter 1961 until June 1962. I heard that a white boy or boys attended before me, but did not graduate. I was mentioned (not by name) in an article published in the The Courier-Journal, Louisville, Ky. 12/14/1961, Report on Integration by Allan M. Trout. The end of the article is "*Mrs. Walls also made the point that perhaps more progress has been made in the statistics than in practice. She cited two points:*
1. CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL(my caps) in Louisville has one white pupil and 1,478 Negro pupils, yet the latter are counted in the state-wide total of 22,021 attending mixed classes. 2. Negro teachers at Central High number 62 and they, too, are included in the State total of 382 teaching in integrated schools."
