Proposed changes to Broxburn, West Lothian Comments

[edit]

Hi people. Firstly, can I suggest removal of village status and apply town status. This Broxburn article primarily mentions small town then later mentions 'Village' (this would only happen if a town decided to reduce in size) and Broxburn has progressively expanded in size.

The Union Canal doesn't "flow" through Broxburn as it is 'still' fresh water.... so therefore 'is located through Broxburn' would be more literally appropriate.

'Gavin Hamilton is a Scottish Cricket Player in England', thus not an 'English Cricket Player' as he was born in Scotland in 1974.

re: " Broxburn has two separate small industrial areas " proposed rename from 'Small Industrial Areas' to "Industrial Areas" with size being unambiguously represented.

"The nearest bus station" is wrong on literal grounds since 'Almondvale Shopping Centre' removed its 'Bus Station' upon its expansion and coincedentaly operates on a roadside basis as opposed to a Bus Station.

1. Town/village status. Broxburn is now a town, yes. I used village when refering to Broxburn in the past when it was a village.

2. The Union Canal does flow; it's just at a very low rate. It's fed mainly from the river Almond and loses are due to evaporation and leakage. Pedantic, I know. :)

3. Change to "...and cricketer Gavin Hamilton"?

4. "Broxburn has two separate small industrial areas " Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean here. Change to "Broxburn has two separate industrial areas"?

5. Fair enough. Changed to bus terminal - it's official designation now.

Let me know what you think. Also any ideas for new stuff that should go on the page.

Tissues friend - The 'Canal' isn't fed mainly from the River Almond as the River Almond lies beneath it (throughout its entire coverage of the Broxburn area). This can be seen towards the Broxburn » Ratho canal path where an aqueduct infrequently opens to expel excess water from the Union Canal (during high rainfall etc). Otherwise, riverflow into the Union Canal would accelerate Canal flowage rigirously. And fair enough, if you want to make points... please don't point them out numerically just to make your point(s) seem more retrospectively valid [and take more space]. This article has became a bit unstructured. There are also some notable spelling discrepancies. Other than that, would be nice to see Broxburns page more categorically divided (even into sub-sections). Nice little town, deserves to be noticed. Peace ☺

Sorry, but the canal is fed from the Almond (the feeder channel runs through Almondell & Calderwood Country Park and flows in to the canal at Almond Aqueduct - see http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/falkirk/unioncanal/index.html & http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/River_Almond,_Lothian . I admit I forgot about the reservoir. I can't remember it's offcial name, as I always called it Harper's Rigg, but that actually refers to a place near the reservoir rather than the reservoir itself.)

Any ideas you have on restructuring the article would be very much appreciated. At the moment the page is not as helpful to someone wanting to know about Broxburn as it should be - that probably comes from my trying to edit a stub rather than think through what it should have been from scratch. Also it's suffered a fair bit of vandalism in the past, from disgruntled residents I think, and hasn't had enough input.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

– The Broxburn in West Lothian is clearly the primary topic based on page views and on the size of the settlement – a town of over 12,000 people, whereas the East Lothian and Queensland Broxburns are very small settlements. Jellyman (talk) 08:14, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
