This is a strange mixture of an article on the Benveniste surname, and a disambiguation page. It should either be split into two articles, or the surname part as well as the biographies of the disambiguated persons removed. --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 08:53, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I did not see this contribution until now. I think there is misunderstanding. The article "Benveniste" is both a surname article and a family article which are disambiguated. The combination of both is justified because the name is unique in history and well connected to family members. The Wikipedia is full of surname and family articles and the current article is no different. The short bios appear as they usually appear in family articles. They are all with well established sources.
The surname part is short and included testimonies (backed by historic documents that appear in the article) on the source of the name (and not a "personal webpage [that is]] not a reliable source"]. I reinstated the story and added the source.
Articles in Wikipedia includes adjectives such as "old, noble, rich, and scholarly" if they are backed by objective facts in the article. All adjectives are backed by historical evidence. I reinstated the extracted words.(Rafi Benvenisti 20:00, 9 February 2014 (UTC))
Tempering with the name Benveniste through history

I noticed that somebody is tempering with the name Benveniste. It is with the same direction - changing the beginning of the name. Vien instead of Bien. The persons doing this does not quote sources to his change. Since I was interested in the subject (for obvious reasons) I noticed that the name Benveniste appears in original document in that form since the 11th and 12th centuries. In Hebrew (it is well known that this is a Jewish name) the pronunciation of the name starts with B (ב). In some periods such as the middle of the 15th century it appears sometimes as Bienveniste (for example Don Abraham Bienveniste).
The name Benveniste is an acceptable form by all the scholars writing on the family. Therefore, I suggest to stick to it in the article. If somebody has a solid source that changes continuously the name of a certain person please quote the source when you make the change or write about it in the talk page.(Rafi Benvenisti 08:20, 5 September 2015 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Refael benvenisti (talk • contribs)
I made a study of the name Vienveniste and was amazed. I discovered a branch of the family I did not recognized. I knew there was a branch in Latin America but had no clue on it. The de Palenzuela family claim an origin from Don Abraham Benveniste the tax collector, court rabbi and leader of the Jewish community of Castile. They are also connected to Don Vidal and the Halevi Benveniste de la Cavaleria family from Saragossa. The Benveniste Family from Salonika is also related to Don Abraham (grandsons). Now I understand the origin of the name vienveniste. I will correct the article to include the legacy of the Palenzuela family.(Rafi Benvenisti 09:43, 5 September 2015 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Refael benvenisti (talk • contribs)
I continued to explore the name Vienveniste in history. I did a search of the name in Google Books and did not find any single mentioning of the name. It may be that the current name is a change of the name Bienveniste that was adopted by some families. The name Bienveniste appear in the sources especially in the middle of the 15th century and especially with the name Don Abraham Benveniste. I suggest that we continue to use Benveniste to all occurrences. Each current family can add to its form of the name the form Benveniste in brackets. In my opinion there is no need to change the article Benveniste to suit any form of current appearance of the name.(Rafi Benvenisti 13:20, 6 September 2015 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Refael benvenisti (talk • contribs)
24.164.184.89; 68.172.212.90 and 2604:2000:2A41:D900:E556:F738:7F81:88D1 are conducting an editing war with Refael benvenisti. They insist to change the name bienveniste to vienveniste in several places. The most absurd change is in the name of the grandfather of David Benvenisti. I have documents from my great grandfather that state his name clearly. The persons are changing the names in the Wikipedia without any sources. I think they are treating the institution as a joke. I am changing the name back to its original. Please follow 24.164.184.89; 68.172.212.90 and 2604:2000:2A41:D900:E556:F738:7F81:88D1 to control their damage. They can be a 'trolls'. They may start to retaliate in other places.Rafi Benvenisti 15:45, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
There is a writer Using my name Rbenvenisti tempering with the article. The Vienveniste proponets (see above) continue to force their opinion on the article. They do not offer source to their editing. They are conducting a war on the editing of the article and should be considered trolls(Rafi Benvenisti 15:33, 30 May 2017 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Refael benvenisti (talk • contribs)
There is an attempt to use Hebrew as the origin of the name. It is an original research that has weak connection to the reality of Spain in the 11th century. Rafi Benvenisti 08:16, 30 May 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Refael benvenisti (talk • contribs)
Is the Name Benvenisti a Regular Given Name or a Special Name in a Family?
I decided to put the contribution of Albeider to the Talk instead of deleting it. It raises an important question. His contribution was:(Rafi Benvenisti 09:39, 13 February 2019 (UTC))
"Yet, the above nice legend does not take into account the fact that in medieval Iberia, before being used as a surname, Benveniste (from the Spanish expression meaning ‘welcome!’) was used by Jews as a given name. It was one of the votive names typical for medieval Jews in southwestern Europe: it expressed a wish for the child to be welcome in this world. As many other names based on father's given name (patronymics), it gradually became a hereditary family name."Albeider(Rafi Benvenisti 09:39, 13 February 2019 (UTC))
The contribution of Albeider to the article was moved to the Talk because it contradicted the written information in the article without reference to any books, articles or written research. It is considered an opinion of the writer or a new research and as such it belongs to the Talk.
Most historians (see Google Books and the Internet) refer to Benveniste as a Family name (a name that is common in a certain family).(Rafi Benvenisti 17:12, 12 February 2019 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Refael benvenisti (talk • contribs)
