Eb major
[edit]I think some mention should be made of his works in Eb major, which he used almost as often as C minor, and which is a closely related key (being the relative major). Notable works would include the 3rd Symphony (the "Eroica"), the 5th Piano Concerto (The "Emperor" Concerto), 2 String Quartets (notably the well-known "Harp" Quartet), 2 Quintets (one for strings and one for piano and winds), 2 Piano Trios, 1 String Trio, 1 Violin Sonata, and 4 of the Piano Sonatas (notably the "Hunt" and "Lebewohl" sonatas). - I think this might be helpful. However, for clarity it ought to be a separate article. Also, it should reflect the views of established critics and scholars, taken from published sources, and not be original material from an particular editor; this is required by WP:NOR. Capitalization
[edit]I'm not sure, but shouldn't "minor" be capitalized in the title of this page, e.g. Beethoven and C Minor? Asmeurer (talk ♬ contribs) 23:16, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Asmeurer, the usual way you answer these questions on WP is to consult the Manual of Style, which sets the official standard. I took a look and the answer seems to be no. Opus33 (talk) 03:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- You shouldn't look at WP:MoS for these things. You NEVER captilaze the "m" of minor or major for keys. It is always "B minor," not "B Minor". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.96.254.176 (talk) 19:53, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Other Uses of C Minor
[edit]Beethoven not only used C minor as a key of lamenting, but also as a key signifying a divine sacrifice. (See Agnus Dei of his Mass in C, Third movement of Symphony No. 3, etc.) 208.70.28.214 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:38, 20 November 2011 (UTC).
