Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page

Hi, I have returned with a section draft for the article explaining Bechtel's business units and office locations. I've written this section to explain Bechtel's operational activities in greater detail than what is included in the "Operations" section currently. The draft can be found in my userspace here.

As Bechtel is such a large organization, I believe it is helpful to include a list of all the company's offices and then explain the various headquarters and activities of each office as sources allowed. I've also included corporate values in this section. Each business unit subtopic briefly explains the types of projects that unit works on and then details recent projects and contracts that have been awarded within the last year or two. I am planning on discussing older projects in other sections I am currently working on.

I would appreciate it if another editors could review the draft. I am happy to discuss feedback or answer any questions that may arise. If everything appears satisfactory, I also ask that the wording be placed in the article. As I mentioned previously, I am a Bechtel employees, so I will not edit the article myself.

Thank you, Dormskirk, for making these changes in the article. Can you clarify what you mean by "the format used here accords with that used for articles on other contractors"? The format here seems to be a bulleted list, which I understood not to be preferred on Wikipedia. I had planned to briefly discuss Bechtel's noteworthy projects, including a sentence or two of description, and, where possible, linking to projects that have Wikipedia articles about them. You are right that generally prose is preferred. That said the convention for major projects undertaken by contractors seems to be bulletted lists - examples include Salini Impregilo and Balfour Beatty. Here is a prose example - Carillion - which probably does not work so well as it is a very long sentence. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

Infrastructure

As I mentioned in my message in July, I've been working on updates to the sections about Bechtel's business units. I now have all of the new material drafted, but I plan on sharing the sections one at a time so that editors can more easily review and discuss the changes I'm recommending.

Oil, Gas & Chemicals

Hello. I'd now like to share a new draft for the Oil, Gas & Chemicals section. It's located here: User:CM at Bechtel/OG&C_update.

I reorganized material so the projects are grouped by gas, chemicals, and oil. I updated the unit's overall projects, and provided updates to the Curtis Island, Corpus Christi, and Sabine Pass projects. I added three new projects, too: work for Shell in Pennsylvania, and two refinery upgrades (Egypt and Texas).

Article updates: infobox and rankings

Hi, I'd like to put forth routine updates to refresh some of the sections in this article. Editors may recall that I am an employee of Bechtel and, because of my position, I refrain from implementing any changes myself. I've also added the required template to the top of the page in accordance with Wikipedia's latest guidelines for editors with conflicts of interest.

Moving on to my suggestions: to bring the infobox up-to-date, the company's revenue and and employee count can be adjusted to figures in the most recent annual report:

• Revenue: $32.3 bn (2015)
• Employees: 53,000 (2015)

I've also rewritten the Financials and rankings section as I did last year to reflect the company's current standings. The new text follows:

In 2016, Bechtel ranked ninth on Forbes' list of America's Largest Private Companies by revenue, and it was ranked 7th on Fortune's list of the 25 Most Important Private Companies. It has been named the top U.S. Contractor by revenue by Engineering News-Record for eighteen years in a row and ranked third on the publication's Top 250 International Contractors list by revenue for 2015.

That is all for the moment. I am in the process of compiling updates for the sections concerning the company's business units, since much of the material is dated to 2013 and 2014. Could you remove it? Additionally, I think Bechtel's "industry" is better described as "Engineering, Construction, Project Management" rather than just "Construction". What do you think? Nuclear, Security, & Environmental

Hello. I've placed the updated draft for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental section in my user space here: User:CM at Bechtel/NS&E_update

Similar to the other drafts, my changes include updating the number of plants Bechtel has worked on and reorganizing the information. I also gave updates on the Watts Bar and Arnold Engineering Development Complex projects. I added three new projects, as well: the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant, Savannah River Remediation, and a new nuclear plant project in Wales.

Management

Hello. I noticed that another editor has updated the Management section and the infobox to reflect Bechtel's leadership changes that took place on September 1st. Editors may want to also add the following people to this paragraph:

• Bill Dudley, vice chairman
• Jack Futcher, president and COO

The following paragraph also was added to the Management section: “Several high-ranking Bechtel executives at times held important positions in the United States government. Notably, Reagan's cabinet had two former Bechtel executives: Caspar Weinberger and George Shultz, serving as Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State respectively. Henry Kissinger and Donald Rumsfeld were also on the Bechtel payroll.”

It is correct that Caspar Weinberger and George Shultz held executive positions at Bechtel. However, Henry Kissinger and Donald Rumsfeld have never worked for Bechtel, either as employees or consultants. I believe this sentence should be deleted from the article.

In the case of Donald Rumsfeld, the source used makes no such claim. The source does say Kissinger was a Bechtel consultant, but without any references or other information to support the claim. I can find no other source that verifies it.

Kissinger is a major figure in national and international affairs and has been the subject of hundreds of books and articles. Many sources have written about Kissinger’s post-government consulting for major companies; based on my search to date, none have said Bechtel was among his clients. Consequently, in this instance, I believe a single source for this claim does not meet Wikipedia’s standards for verifiability.

I appreciate that my conflict of interest may lead to some skepticism about this request, so I'd like to reiterate that my focus has always simply been to help editors keep this article updated and accurate. Thank you for your consideration. CM at Bechtel (talk) 20:54, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Mining & Metals

The section I'm proposing is significantly longer than what's currently in the article. It includes several new projects (ex. Aluminium Bahrain), updates on existing ones (ex. Shaheen Alumina Refinery is now known as Al Taweelah), and expands on the company's projects in Australia and Chile.

Major Projects

Hello. I'm very pleased to share a table I've been working on that describes Bechtel's major projects and uses photos from Wikimedia Commons. From a reader's perspective, I believe the layout and inclusion of photos will make it easy for readers to quickly digest information about each project.

The projects are ordered in chronological order by start date (since some projects have been ongoing for 30 years). I mainly included projects already in the article that have their own entries (to merit the "major" designation). There are a few exceptions and I can discuss my reasoning if needed.

To be clear, I intend for this to replace the bulleted list in the article now. I hope you agree that it is an improvement, but I will make any changes deemed necessary.

Stubbing

I am stubbing this article. It's honestly one of the worst WP:coatracks I've ever seen. Bechtel has done a lot of shitty stuff, and the article should reflect that, but this article is written as an explicit hitpiece. An article on Bechtel should reflect its wrongdoings, but it shouldn't be a hitpiece. Do not restore the content I remove unless you rewrite it to comply with WP:NPOV first. This is the sort of article that brings Wikipedia in to disrepute. If non-NPOV sections are restored - especially those that violate WP:BLP - I'll be taking this to the appropriate noticeboards. Kevin Gorman has not right to stub this article. He is obviously a Spin moderator. The Article is about Bechtel instructing an Engineer to Falsify documentation. This is against Bechtel own Ethics standards. Mr. Gorman, You have no right to delete the content of the Article. To say this is the worst article you have seen is your opinion and not based on fact. The facts are Bechtel had a contract to supply 40modules for the Chevron Wheatstone LNG projects Kenyan a Module yard in 2 years for 340million US dollars. In 18 months they had produced 2even without electrical equipment for nearly 1.4 billion. Total systemic failure by Bechtel and much of the work was given to other yards worldwide at huge expense and cost overdubs of 6billion which are documented in the media. My comments about complete systemic failure of American management of this incompetent company to understand hazardous Areas is unprecedented. The hiring of cheap Phillipines Engineers Labour with little skill or exposure to Ex in a production environment is unprecedented. Fact this company Bechtel has no credibility and cannot say publically it has ethical standards or it would have listened to and settled my grievance. I therefore have every right to contest your claim of worst article as a subjective opinion that is obviously politically motivated. Furthermore my experience of serious design flaws and mismanagement on this project is confirmed by my colleague electrical engineers still working there. I am a hazardous Areas design classification and inspection engineer. What I found could kill people. Im one of few people people prepared to stand up and say that. Bechtel Coorperation is a corrupt organisation involved in poor engineering design against Australian Hazardous Standards I've uncovered that there claims of exellence and customer focus are completely hollow. Alleged fraud

My name is Jeremy Penrice in 2014 I was employed as an Area Coordinator Engineer at the Wheatstone Module Yard in Malaysia. While working there Bechtel senior site Management asked me to falsify company and Australian Government legislation. I refused to do this and left the contract. An internal investigation found nothing and I still have the proof.A full account of the incidents is available on my Oilpro profile which they refuse to publish. This page is about corruption and practises by the Contractor Bechtel on the Wheastone LNG Project to direct its employee to Falsify Australian Government Hazardous Area Regulatory Documentation. No company has a right to do that and place people's lives and property at risk. This is were it belongs.
