Consensus to redirect Action of 1 February 1625 to Battle off Hormuz (1625). As there is now sourced content that can be merged, I will merge the pages and transfer the list of ships to the target article. Any disagreements about whether this should be included or not can be resolved in later sections here on the talk page. Felix QW (talk) 12:26, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that the two articles are about the same battle. Ruud Buitelaar (talk) 02:46, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it seems like that is the case. We should merge it DavidDijkgraaf (talk) 09:55, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I´ll wait for a week or so to give others a chance to weigh in. Ruud Buitelaar (talk) 21:16, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • WP:BLAR. No merge, since the other article has no sources. Srnec (talk) 00:56, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right. The only information that would be lost after a blank-and-redirect are the names of the vessels. To preserve the names of the vessels requires a source, and I cannot find one. @DavidDijkgraaf, can you find a source about the Slag om de Perzische Golf with the names of the vessels? • @Coeusin, thank you for adding a reference to the Action of 1 February 1625 article. Thanks also for placing the pdf on the talk page. Very interesting. Still, the merge proposal still holds and you certainly cannot just remove the merge to tag. I have replaced the merge tag. Please join the merge discussion here. Why would we need two separate articles? What makes the so-called Action of 1 february 1625 (which, according to the text, took most of february 1625) different from the Battle off Hormuz? I think it is important to merge the two articles in english because it would also bring together the dutch, italian and polish versions, connected to the "Action" article, with the portuguese version, connected to the Battle article. Your opinion would be very welcome.Ruud Buitelaar (talk) 23:11, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ruud Buitelaar My mistake, sorry. Honestly, even with that source I think a WP:BLAR would be warranted. It doesn't establish that that was a different event from this article's subject matter. Regards, Coeusin (talk) 06:21, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no problem. Yes, indeed, the two articles describe the same battle. The thing is that the book by William Laird Clowes does mention on page 46 the names of the ships and the number of casualties per ship. That information, contained in the Action article, is not present in the Battle off Hormuz article. Therefore, I would prefer the merge option, so we can insert the reference and the information from the Action article in the Battle article.
