Paleobiology
[edit]In the section with the above title, we read, '...near-adult cubs would have likely helped to restrain prey while their mother made the kill. Such behavior potentially was a foundation for more extensive social ties in later feliforms and felids.' It's impossible for the family structure of Barbourofelis to have provided a 'foundation' for future social ties in 'feliforms and felids.' Barbourofelis had no recognized descendants, certainly not among the felids, which belong to a completely different family. Even if it did, behavior deriving from the saber teeth of Barbourofelis would not be relevant for species that did not have such teeth, descendants or no.
