Name

[edit]

I see that this article has recently been moved from Bampton (Devon) railway station, by User:Edward with the edit summary "no need to disambiguate". I was under the impression that the article name should reflect the final name of the station, which according to Butt (see article) was Bampton (Devon), a name used from 1911 onwards, the name Bampton having been used for less than 27 years, since 1884. Further, there was another Bampton railway station, in Oxfordshire; it bore the name from 1873 until 1906 (33 years), so if anything, has better claim to "Bampton railway station". --Redrose64 (talk) 11:48, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of closed railway stations in Britain: B lists two Bampton stations, so I think the disambiguation is neccessary. Geof Sheppard (talk) 16:06, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Have just found Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations)#Official names; this is a closed station, so should be "last official name", as I suspected earlier. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:02, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
