olympic?
[edit]Why is it called the olympic stadium despite no plans to host the Olympics? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.156.212.1 (talk) 16:21, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- Probably due to Baku bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Wbm1058 (talk) 16:26, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- Azerbaijan Stadium was created at 08:33, 29 December 2009 (permalink)
- At 03:32, 21 January 2010 NovaSkola moved page Azerbaijan Stadium to Azerbaijan Olympic Stadium (Stadium renamed to Azerbaijan Olympic Stadium)

Hi Xoncha. Names of the venues are incorrect. I am Aysel from Baku 2015, Communications department.

So it seems that after losing the bid for the 2020 Olympics, the name was changed from "Olympic" to "National". Are they changing the name again, in conjunction with a new bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics? It seems that they cancelled their potential bid for 2024. Wbm1058 (talk) 18:04, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- I would recommend moving the article back to Baku National Stadium since the name in Azerbaidjani translates to Baku National Stadium. Braveheart (talk) 10:27, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- Agreed with Braveheart move to Baku National Stadium. It can be called Olympic when there has been a successful Olympic bid.SovalValtos (talk) 13:05, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- User:Kyoukoku moved the article from Baku Olympic Stadium to Baku National Stadium by cut-and-paste. I reverted that move, then I made the move properly, as I am an admin. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:55, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Image being deleted
[edit]Are you aware that File:Baku Olympic Stadium, in Azerbaijan.jpg is going to be deleted? There is no Freedom of panorama in Azerbaijan, so photos of modern architecture cannot be hosted at Commons. The image could probably be uploaded locally on en-wp, on the bases of fair use (see WP:EDP). --LPfi (talk) 08:37, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
