Don't add to the confusion

Why the change to use laser twice in the same sentence? These two different acronyms are used in the reference and so should be used in this same context in the article. Defining the same word to mean two different things compounds the confusion this section is meant to address. I have added the long-missing initial citation for nomenclature (and a generally good introduction to the physical meanings of the terms) and will look for another one from the optical community on the other side of the confusion. I will try at that time also to clean up the unnecessary use of both references and footnotes by consolidating the citations into a single section. -Jiminy pop (talk) 12:01, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maser means "Microwave Amplfication by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". There is absolutely no implication whatever that a resonator is involved. (Ditto laser). The general use of the term "a maser" or "a laser" to indicate a self-contained resonant lmaser/laser source does nothing to invalidate this. PhysicistQuery (talk) 21:56, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
