speedy deletion request
[edit]There was once an article with a perfectly good name [[Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87)]]. Another wikipedia editor decided it would be better named [[Asif Iqbal (detainee)]], overlooking that there could be other detainees named Asif Iqbal.
There are now three articles about individuals named, Asif Iqbal. One is a cricket player, and the other two have been held in custody as alleged terrorists. In order to disambiguate the article about Asif Iqbal (Ayodhya bombing suspect), from the article about the former Guantanamo detainee, this article needs a less ambiguous name. I think it should be restored to its previous name. Doing so, while preserving its edit history requires deleting the redirect article so that the main article can be moved back to its proper name. -- Geo Swan 19:01, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Requested move

The result of the debate was Move, without prejudice to a change in global naming scheme for all detainees. As Geo Swan pointed on his talk page, this is a part of a wider naming scheme, and the problem is that many Guantanamo detainees have same or similar names between each other or with other people; so, this naming scheme, right or wrong, was chosen as universal. So, for consistency, I'm moving it back. Duja► 10:51, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Asif Iqbal (detainee) → Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87) — This article was previously named Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87). This is consistent with several dozen other Guantanamo captives. Many of those Guantanamo captive's names collided with the names of other Guantanamo captives. I gave the rest of them similar names, for consistency and predictability. Another wikipedian thought Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87) was too verbose. I felt this name failed to provide enough details to distinguish this individual from other Asif Iqbals who were also prisoners. The other wikipedian disputed that this was likely to ever be a problem. But it turned out that there was another Asif Iqbal imprisoned because he was suspected of terrorism. So, I believe the article should be restored to the previous name. — Geo Swan 21:09, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Survey - in support of the move
[edit]Survey - in opposition to the move
[edit]- Oppose - Unless there is another Asif Iqbal being detained there is no need to further disambiguate (detainee) to (Guantanamo detainee) and (Guantanamo detainee 87) is only necessary if there is another Asif Iqbal in detention at Guantanamo Bay. Neither case is true, so (detainee) is enough. --Bobblehead 19:51, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- But, there is another suspected terrorist, named Asif Iqbal - Asif Iqbal (Ayodhya bombing suspect) - detained in India. The Indian Asif Iqbal is just as entitled to deserve the Asif Iqbal (detainee). — Geo Swan 08:21, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Edits
[edit]Since none of the sources claim that Ahmed or Iqbal were in the UK during the taping of the Osama Bin Laden meeting, I changed the sentence saying such to read that only Ruhal was confirmed to be in the UK during that time. If anyone can find an article (or if I made an error and overlooked something in a source), feel free to change it back.<>Epsoul 23:54, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
spelling
[edit]I reverted the change from the spanish spelling of Guantanamo back to the English spelling. It considerably complicates maintenance, and text searches.
I am willing to discuss this change. But I figured it was important to make this change now, when it was easy to undo.
