Use of the name "Tourists"
[edit]The page states that the name "Tourists" dates from 1915, when writers for the Asheville Citizen-Times began using the name to refer to the Mountaineers. "Tourists" actually was in common usage in the Citizen-Times sports pages as early as 1913. The earliest use of "Tourists" that I found was an article on page 6 of the Citizen-Times published April 21, 1913, in which the team was referred to as "Stouch's Tourists" (Tommy Stouch being the player-manager). Throughout the 1913 and 1914 seasons, the names Tourists and Mountaineers were used interchangeably. ReverbRaccoon (talk) 19:03, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
