HELLO! the article is totally messed up by the latest editions of a Greenock-something. All information about Alexanders releases of Russian songs and Russian albums are gone. Can somebody please bring it back to where it was before this guy edited? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.178.119.118 (talk) 22:37, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Citizenship

[edit]

Would any one know which country he is a citizen of?Phanar (talk) 17:28, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think he is a Norwegian citizen. --Kanonkas :  Talk  17:33, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still, he will never be a true Norwegian. Always a Belorussan. Norum (talk) 06:01, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since an IP changed his nationality to BEL just now, I have added a cite to confirm his Norwegian citizenship (which he got in 2000). Please do not change this without discussion here. decltype (talk) 02:36, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you are so kind, I suggest to remove the belarus & norwegian nationality. If his parents are both from Belarus, how the hack has got the Norwegian. The picture with the norwegian flag is subject to fraud, so I suggest to leave on just the norwegian nationality, if you preffer. If he managed to win a contest or not, I don't see why would wikipedia add the "belarussian" nationality to him if he obtained the norwegian. When you open up some of his articles you are confused of the "belarussian + norwegian" nationality. Wouldn't you consider to settle he's got a secondary nationality for norwegian ? Controversy

[edit]

Who the hell put that piece of information about Alexander Rybak cannot play the violin? It looks convincing the way the article is presented and written but there are NO sources whatsoever. I even Googled it and I couldn't find a shred of evidence that he couldn't play the violin. Need more info and possible source. Armabeedon (talk) 10:06, 18 June 2009 (UTC):[reply]

I looked it up. It was someone from Amsterdam. IP address 90.195.2**.** Armabeedon (talk) 10:25, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Alexander_Rybak&direction=next&oldid=297032935 I don't think it's true Armabeedon (talk) 10:29, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well if it comes back it will be removed immediately. Look more like a personal attack/critical statement rather than a convincing infomation. Raphie (talk) 15:24, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And a political statement too. It's not uncommon to have a Eurovision Song Contest entrant awarded a 12 points by a country who has political ties with. Armabeedon (talk) 08:11, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rybak's middle name

[edit]

I could be wrong, but I think his middle name is derived from his father's first name. Since his father's name is Igor (or Ihar in BLR), his middle name becomes "Iharavich". Similarly, we can deduce that Alexander's grandfather was also named Alexander, because of his father's middle name "Aliaksandravich". decltype (talk) 13:53, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear editors. I am one of Alexander Rybaks admins of his social pages. He has studied this Wikipedia-page about him and has asked us to bring a request: Is it possible to delete the Chart-lists? As he says, he has not really been big on Charts since 2010 and he has long ago decided, he is not a "format-artist". His work is about so many other things, than Charts. He would be very happy, if the Charts could be removed. Another reason is, for every album on this page, there is links to seperate Wiki-pages where the charts can be found. Perhaps, that is sufficient? Removal of the charts could provide space for more interesting info, maybe:-)

If you need any info, we will be happy to help out. Here is the link to his recently updated BIO at his website: http://www.alexanderrybak.com/bio/

He has given us an updated list of his releases. I have already added the "Education" and "Awards" to the page, but I post the Release-list here, in case there is some new info, that could be used for update of the page. Thanks for your great work and updating of this Wikipedia-page. Best regards.

Second album details, edit-protect?

[edit]

Due to the ridiculously disproportionate levels of protection affecting this article, the '2.3 2nd album (2010–present)' section is out of date. The album was formally announced on the 31st May and named 'No Boundaries', and is due for release on June 21st. This section also fails to detail Rybak's further involvement in the 2010 Eurovision, the release of the single 'Oah' on June 1st, or any other notable activity since the protect was added. I understand the need to curb vandalism, but the article has become factually incorrect and out of date due to the over-eager protection, which seems to have been applied in this particular case but not to other equivalent musicians, whom face the same levels of vandalism... --~ Analysethis ~ Anonymous Deity ~ Just a n00b ~ (talk) 14:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sasha?

[edit]

In alot of norwegian interviews with him people call him "Sasha". Is there a reason for this? Is it another name of his, or am I being ignorant and it means something in norwegian? Princess-pink95 (talk) 14:24, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism?

[edit]

Some months ago, somebody added under "Notes" the sentence: "Rybak won the Серебряная калоша-2010 (Silver Overshoe-2010) for Plagiarism Of The Year for Ya Ne Veryu V Chudesa, which resembles Aerosmith's I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing." (Note: This is "Superhero" in the Russian version.) Unfortunately there is no source for that statement. On the Russian Wikipedia site for Серебряная калоша, Rybak's name isn't mentioned. So I googled it and found a Youtube video with a "show" where indeed Rybak's Superhero is compared to Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss a Thing. I guess he didn't win the mentioned prize - but I don't know, and I don't speak Russian. Who can help? Paul Haferstroh (talk) 00:02, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unless it is referenced, it has no place on the page. Very dubious award at best. Karst (talk) 17:23, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gay?

[edit]

All five sources report the same incident, 8 years ago, and some have exactly the same wording. It looks more like "sleb goss" than a meaningful statement on his part. In fact the Cosmopolitan article also says this (Google translation):

"There are rumors, that Rybak opened its orientation, in order to attract more attention to his own person. Perhaps, he went to it to avoid blackmail, as it did a few years ago, lead singer of the British group Boyzone Stephen Gately. In addition Fisher could and joke, to get rid of too troublesome fans."

So I'm still a bit uneasy about adding this as if it were fact. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:42, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unless Rybak "comes out" I don't see a reason for including this.--BabbaQ (talk) 11:51, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unless someone can provide a convincing rationale, I intend to remove it again. I think it says more about the Russian press than it does about Rybak. And three years later we got this. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:55, 27 January 2018 (UTC) p.s. here is Rybak talking about his ex-girlfriend Ingrid Berg Mehus who was the inspiration for "Fairytale".[reply]
By the way, Korrespondent.net is Ukrainian portal, Tut.by is Belarusian one. 109.252.17.80 (talk) 15:53, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification, but they all seem to be in Russian. Yes, an interesting pattern there. But still somewhat limited coverage, I would say. So, do you have a coherent rationale for including this claim? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:00, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They all are in Russian because many people in Belarus and Ukraine speak Russian. 109.252.17.80 (talk) 16:24, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thanks. Do you have a coherent rationale for including the claim about Rybak? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:38, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are publications in Belarusian and Ukrainian languages: [1][2][3][4][5]. They are not the Russian press, they are pro-European democratic mass media. 109.252.17.80 (talk) 19:46, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying the nature of your new sources. But I don't think your point that these "sources are not Russian press" really adds much to your case. I don't think you really have a convincing rationale at all. The alleged "admission" by Rybak seems to be uncorroborated hearsay, reported 8 years ago, that falls far short of a clear and genuine expression of his own sexuality. Other freely available circumstantial evidence suggests he's not gay. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:04, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. I see that the Russian wiki article says this: "In 2010, during the next Eurovision Song Contest in Norway, the media reported on the singer's non-traditional sexual orientation. [13] But later the singer denied this information."
p.p.s. was that your choice or GoogleTranslate's to render that Ukrainian word "зізнався" as "confessed"?
"was that your choice or GoogleTranslate's to render that Ukrainian word "зізнався" as "confessed"?" Ukrainian - English dictionary: зізнаватися - confess [1]
"But later the singer denied this information" There arn't the source there. 109.252.17.80 (talk) 09:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying. You don't see anything odd about using the word "confession"? Yes, ru.wiki doesn't really help, us does it? But I still see no rationale for inclusion, so I'll remove that claim. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't insist that Rybak is gay. But I don't see reasons why it's impossibly to mention the fact of numerous publications. A lot of Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian media reported about that event during Eurovision 2010! Why not? 109.252.17.80 (talk) 12:25, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is the final word. No indication that he is gay. Until he "comes out" or announces a relationship or marriage to man it would be wrong to add this info. BabbaQ (talk) 14:26, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Whose "the final word"? Your? Perhaps Rybak's announcement in 2010 was attempt of coming out. "it would be wrong to add this info" What info? It isn't info that he really is gay, but it's info that he announced about this in 2010. 109.252.17.80 (talk) 14:06, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is my final word. As an experienced editor. Until further confirmation by Alexander himself.BabbaQ (talk) 17:32, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • For what it's worth, here's an interview in Norwegian from 2009 reporting it as gossip (in Russian media), contrasting it with gossip about his having pissed away his TV earnings and about his having a new girlfriend, and giving his response as that gossip is fun, it's good people are writing about him, so in fact he likes to launch his own rumours. That's substantially all I found searching in Norwegian, so I'd concur that the sources don't merit including the point. Yngvadottir (talk) 04:32, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
