Name

[edit]

The work is written in Ancient Greek, so the real original name isn't "Libri tres contra Galileos", but Κατὰ Γαλιλαίων. Also, I see no particular reason to use the title in the original language in the first place.--91.148.159.4 (talk) 18:12, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved the page from "Libri tres contra Galileos" back to "Against the Galilaeans", unless I've missed something, I can see no good reason why the Latin title should be preferred over the English title. Pasicles (talk) 19:45, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Considering this article is several years old, and Galilaean faith was created this week, that's really not a precedent, and if anything, both articles should use Galilean per Galilean dating from 2005.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:29, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest... I created the new article to match the name of this article, so the rename-question should cover both articles. On the other hand... I thought this spelling is kept for it is an ancient term which wasn't really used since then, and to distinquish it from "galilean" things derived form the name of Galileo Galilei... --Niusereset (talk) 10:22, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Yup, Galilaean faith and this are the only articles that use this spelling in the title, compared to Galilean, Galilean dialect, Jose the Galilean and Emperor and Galilean so renaming this and the new faith article seems a good idea. I think the idea of distinguishing these from the Galileo "galilean" articles is good, but I don't think any of the topics overlap enough for us to need to use WP:NATURALDISAMBIG, and I don't really think most readers would notice either way. It doesn't seem proportionate to change all of our coverage of Galilee to use an archaic spelling to avoid this, and I'm also not sure that this distinction based on spelling is used anywhere else: I hate to say things are WP:OR when not talking about article content, but it would basically be us inventing a new convention. ‑‑YodinT 12:21, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As I said... when I was creating the faith article.... I adjusted the spellling to this article. I named it originally "Galilean faith" but then I noticed this spelling and I changed it before submiting. And since it seems most people here agree with renaming... let's do it. No objections from my side. Redirects and some notice in the article about possible alternative spelling in elder sources should cover the rest of the thing. --Niusereset (talk) 15:40, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, cheers Niusereset. I've moved Galilaean faith to Galilean faith. This section should probably be closed before this article is moved (seems pretty unanimous if Gonnym is ok with it). ‑‑YodinT 10:47, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have no preference one way or another as I haven't researched the topic, just wanted to make sure that pages on the same topic use the same spelling. --Gonnym (talk) 10:56, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
