Did he keep the "His Highness" title after 1917? Astrotrain 19:40, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It says in the article that he renounced it, but is there an outside source we could check, just to be sure. IMHO I don't think he would have kept it, as His Highness the Marquess of Cambridge just doesn't sound right. Prsgodd e ss187 11:12, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking that since the "His Highness" style was a British one, so would not need to be renounced. Of course no evidence is avaliable that I can find to back this up. Astrotrain 12:19, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, I keep forgetting that HH was a British creation. Us silly Americans! I will check the web when I get a chance, and see what I can find.

I've had a look at the wording of the Royal Warrant- and it does state that he relinquishes "His Highness" along with the Teck titles. See [1] Astrotrain 12:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Offer of Hungarian throne

I have mentioned story, reported in and cited to the local newspaper of his death place (Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England) of his being considered for the vacant throne of Hungary. Can anyone put a year to the approach, which according to the newspaper was made during the decade (1920s) he was living in Shropshire. I am aware Hungary was a kingdom with a vacant throne during the years 1920-1946 after the Habsburgs were kept from occupying it and the state was headed by Admiral Horthy as Regent.Cloptonson (talk) 21:27, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see someone has given the year he was offered it as 1927 but it is not supported by the "Chronicle" report which suggests no year other than being while he had settled in Shropshire. I have removed this – I can find no reference to Hungary's regent Miklós Horthy or the Hungarian parliament offering the throne to anyone. For quite an extraordinary claim we need better sourcing than a local English newspaper. I T B F 📢 09:37, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How was he a member of the Royal Family?

He was George III's non-heir son Adolphus's non-heir daughter Mary's heir-son. Does that make a person a member of the Royal Family? Alternatively he was the King George Vi's wife's brother. Does THAT make a person a member of the Royal Family? The article doesn't give "HRH" or "Prince" in front of his name (except where it is "His Serene Highness" and "His Highness" both of which have to be foreign because the only "Highness" in the UK is a "Royal" one). I am unfamiliar with any assertion that the current Duke of Edinburgh's siblings are or were in the Royal Family. Is this one of those things that slices differently when the Monarch's spouse is male rather than female? His mother was a British Princess, with a genuine HRH before her name and the whole family remained British citizens. That's the main reason. His sister became Queen. He, his siblings and his parents were therefore somewhat minor Royals. But there's no definition of "Royal Family". Serene Highness was indeed foreign but "Highness" was a British appellation in his and his father's case. Adolphus was even offered HRH, which he prudently refused. Army rank?

The paragraph "Duke of Teck and later military career" states that he was a lieutenant-colonel and was temporary elevated to brigadier general 1915 while serving as military secretary to the commander-in-chief of the British Expeditionary Forces (BEF) in France.
