Ahoy... going by memory here... Several variants of the SQS-26 sonar system. AN-SQS-26AX, the AXR, BX then CX. Unsure of the differences but they exist. I was on a DEG with the AXR system then on a CG with the CX. Minimal differences between the two that I could see though I was just a mere operator of the sonar while other operators had finished the advanced schooling that allowed them to maintain and repair the equipment when needed.Obbop (talk) 18:18, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Having just finished a Google search of "26 sonar", I found two other USN vessels whose wiki pages list AN/SQS-26 sonars as being installed -- USS CARPENTER DD-825) and USCGC MELLON (WHEC-717). There is also reference to the Knox-class variants built for the Spanish Navy, the Baleares class frigate, of which there are/were five commissioned. I can only assume that the latter had the CX variant installed (before being replaced). However, I cannot find reference to the 26 variant installed in MELLON (might have been CX) or CARPENTER (if this reference is, indeed, accurate, it would have to have been either the GE version -- AX or the EDO version -- BX). Information from old sonar geeks is much appreciated.Funeraldut (talk) 04:49, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
